Start with an empty tank since you will need to drop it. I made a holder out of a 2x4 and a piece of plywood. This way the floor jack did not dent the tank.

Test the sender before you install it! I ordered and installed a new tank and sender, but the sender does not read accurately. Haven't felt like doing it again so I have to live with it for now!

Any tips on HOW to test a fuel sending unit in an early fox body? I have an INOP fuel guage in my '83 and want to verify why before dropping the tank

Do you have an ohm meter? Or even a simple test light may help you determine if it's an electrical or mechanical issue.

I should have done some stuff before I posted . I dropped my tank tonight and grabbed my EVTM. I used my multi meter on resistance mode (Ohms) and could not get the reading to change when I ran the sender through its range of motion with the meter leads on the terminals on the sender. Looks like it's time for a new one for me.
