Default 85 Mustang Coolant Reservoir Cover

The lid on my coolant reservoir is becoming loose at the front corner where the hose goes in.

Looking at how it was stuck on, there was black goo stuff from the factory. I bought some butyl rope to reseal the lid.

I was trying to get the whole thing off, so I could clean the old adhesive, clean the tank, and get the lid back on evenly with some fresh butyl.

I couldn't for the life of me get the other 3 corners up without fear of breaking the lid. Then I hopped on Google and it looks like they were GLUED from the factory.

So, what were they glued with -- will this butyl rope do the job? They seemed to use that stuff everywhere else on the car...

I used a hot glue gun to reglue mine. Seems to be holding quite well.
