    Default Air cleaner cover hlpp

Hi, this might be a stupid question, but I'm redoing my air cleaner cover, it was somewhat corroded and pitted. I removed all the top coat and pretty well got as far as I can go, there still is some pitting but it is clean and ready for refinishing. My stupid question is should I polish the cover with Mother's aluminum polish and then apply the decal. Also I read on another thread to clear coat after complete. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, troy.

The clearcoat will protect the aluminum from " dulling", but could yellow from heat.

Thanks, as of now I've left the brushed aluminum look to it and have applied the decal. No clear coat. But am I correct that Ford did apply clear coat to the cover. I read this on a post from 2008. Just asking.

Pretty sure Ford did clearcoat these. I've seen some clearcoat peeling over the years & assumed it was original. I could be mistaken though.

Although I have not done the whole thing because I use this as a cover on my evapor rust bucket you can see where some got on it and removed the yellow.

Actually put some on top too and it cleaned it up better than it was.

Its a rough lid so only so good it can look.

Well guys, went with a satin clear coat from VHT high temp. clear. It seems to retain the brushed finish without any gloss (wanted to preserve the new decal). I'll post pics when complete. Thanks again for all the info. Troy.

Good luck with it, looking forward to the pics. Sorry, I misread the post and guess my info wasn't really helpful.

Amazing how tough it is to get the covers looking factory correct again.

Ya , the pitting is a bad thing it's as good as its' going to get. But all the suggestions and help is immensely appreciated. Thanks, Troy.

Finished the Satin clear, The whole thing is not perfect but nice, just wondering if I should just shoot it with a coat of Gloss clear now or retain the satin finish. Any input appreciated. TroyName: 20180318_085534.jpg

I have the same issue with mine. Going to try your technique- I think it's the perfect look for these. Thanks!
