    Wink Out of This World Tesla Roadster

    Space X test launched The Falcon Heavy Booster today.
    Space X owner had a little fun with the test pay load.
    A red Tesla roadster with a dummy dressed in a space suit is orbiting earth right now.
    And so will be sent to a permanent orbit after more tests of the upper stage.

    Okay, I'll be the first to say it.WTF!

    The rocket is traveling at a few thousand miles per hour, and Spaceman does not have both hands on the steering wheel!

    For the Very Cool Live Feed, see:
    It will cycle through 4/5 cameras. If you watch, you'll see the Earth pass by. VERY COOL!!

    UPDATE: It seems like the batteries for the live feed died ~7am EST 2/7/2018.

    The live feed is expected to last only ~12 hours.
    WAA!!!

    Musk outfitted his Roadster with cameras to capture views of the car as it floated through space, but the batteries are only expected to last for roughly 12 hours. Behind the wheel was “Starman,” clad in the same space suit that astronauts will wear during SpaceX’s Crew Dragon flights to the International Space Station.

    For the speed and trajectory of the Falcon Heavy Rocket:
    When I checked, it was going ~14,500 Miles Per Hour!

    I watched the liftoff on youtube "live". I was one of the ~2.3 million people that watched the even via youtube. :-)
    https://www.theverge.com/2018/2/6/16...-stream-record
    ===
    the live stream of the event was the second biggest in YouTube’s history. The event reached over 2.3 million concurrent views on YouTube, coming in second to the Red Bull Stratos jump, which racked in a ridiculous 8 million concurrent views back in 2012.
    ===

    Fwiw, youtube "live" is "some totally random *ss delay from the real live event. Depending on the feed/connection you get, it can be seconds or minutes!

    Latest: The rocket overshot it's trajectory. Oops!
    It's no longer in a mars near intercept orbit.
    It's now in a Sun orbit that is closer to Ceres orbit. Ceres is the largest object in the asteroid belt that lies between the orbits of Mars and Jupiter.

    Third burn successful. Exceeded Mars orbit and kept going to the Asteroid Belt.

    Some cool pictures
    The two side booster rockets both landing, at the same time, so that they can refurbished and reused.

    I'm going to guess Elon is a Heavy Metal fan.

    Imho, the car and the live feed is the the best publicity idea ever!
    Musk also has a number of products that are consumer based.
    Not only his Tesla cars, but also his new solar panel/roof tiles, and his home battery-backup storage.

    Btw, I updated the links in my post above, for live streaming and tracking.

    If you haven't watched the video of the full launch yet, it's worth the ten minutes, this is one of the coolest things I've ever seen. They really weren't even sure it was going to work, the people who made this thing were going nuts through the whole launch. Seeing those boosters, which by the way are 160 feet tall, steer themselves back from the edge of space to land upright and exactly in the middle of those targets was amazing. To boot, this thing costs 90 million bucks, which aint nothing, but it's dirt cheap compared to other programs. It carries about twice the payload of the next biggest launch vehicle for a third of the price. It's hard not to be moved when watching this, especially when you can feel the palpable joy on the part of the folks who made it happen. Something we can all be proud of!

    Not intended as any political statement
    Just vague fact. Stuff that is a possible threat to owning classic cars (costs, regulations, govt obsoleting old anything)
    The space agenda is ok.
    But not the dark side

    Elon doesn't have a battery to keep a few Go-Pro cameras powered for more than 12 hours ?!?
