Default Stereo relocation and speaker questions

Anybody ever relocate their stereo to inside the center console? I have a pioneer that is only Bluetooth ( no CD player) and was tossing around the idea of doing this in my 86 convertible. Also does anybody know the correct sizes of speakers for this car? Crutchfield was no help and the internet isn't much better. Thanks in advance everybody.

The front speakers are 3.5”. Depending on the year, you may have speakers in the door, front custom installed, rear door factory. You may also have speakers in the rear quarter panels. I found the factory rears on my 84. Not sure on the door and quarter sizes.

    Speakers sizes are:

    3.5" Dash

    5.25" Doors

    6" x 8" Rear quarters / Rear Decklid

The 79-86 cars generally don't have door speakers that I am aware of. Maybe the verts were different, but I am not 100%

In my experience you can fit a 5.25" speaker in the front door, but it will require cutting the door shell or custom pods attached to the door panels.

There were aftermarket kick panels below the dash to add 5.25 or 5.5" speakers, but I haven't seen a set for the 79-86 cars recently. I think you can still find the 87-93 style that can be made to work, although they limit the foot well space and can cause issues especially with a clutch pedal and big feet.

I guess you could modify the console to house the stereo, but I don't see much benefit over the stock location when doing that. But your opinion may vary Best of Luck!

The main speakers I was wondering about we're the ones close to the floor in the back seat being a convertible. I want the stereo there because I don't feel like removing the one from the dash.

Yes, there are speakers in the vert. Quarter panels. I reconnected them to the factory wiring on my 84. I don't recall what size the were as I did not remove them.
    Probably abou 6".

My 89 ragtop had 5 1/4" speakers in the rear on the front edge of the rear seat trim, as does my son's 86 vert.

Newer foxbody convertibles had 6x8 cut into the sides in the back seat

dash speakers are 3.5", and the top of the line Kicker speakers sound outstanding.

Ive seen four eyed foxes that had speakers towards the back of the door that I'm told were factory. I don't know....

People do cut speakers into the doors sometimes. 4" are an easy fit, 5 1/4 is a cram. 6 does not fit.

Per Fox chassis, the early 84 verts. Had speakers at the rear of the door. My 84 is a late one and does not have any at the rear door.

I was not sure if the quarter panel speakers were original on my car. Possibly they have been replaced as I seem to recall them being a name brand, not Ford. The Ford wiring 2as present. I was too busy trying to remove the extra 100 feet of wiring and hooking up the radio correctly. I suspect the rear speakers may have changed in 87.

I like the idea of relocating the stereo. I'd be interested in using the stock location for a gauge panel.
