My brother sent me pics of this Mustang he spotted in a parking lot in southeastern CT. Anyone know the car? The thing looks absolutely badass!
I've got 1.5" Maier flares on my '89, looks to me like this one has the 3" flares.

Someone spent a nice chunk of $$ on that GT!
Maier Racing flares don't fit that well out of the box. Very Cool!

I'd love to build one like that myself. Just need to get the right car and the time and the space. Hmmmm I think I have a problem.
That's a mean mf right there.
I actually love the idea of a 3" flare, but never liked the look of the Maier 3" setup. The wheel arch area looks "goofy" to me. I personally prefer the 1.5" flares. Many don't even notice the flares as they are subtle, yet add some needed room to run bigger wheels and tires.

1984 LTD LX, 160k mile Explorer 5.0, Comp XE264HR-14 cam, Alex’s Parts springs on stock GT40 3 bar heads, Unported Explorer intake, 1 5/8 shorty headers, off-road H-Pipe, Spintech 9000 mufflers, Holley Terminator X Max, J-Mod 4R70W, Mustang 8.8 w/ 3.73s, Tubular front and rear control arms, front coilovers, Turbocoupe rear coil springs
If I could get a clean, relatively rust free body, I'd like to make one in steel. I think it could be done much more cleanly if the flare lines extended onto the doors, similarly to some of the '40s Buicks. Really nice car though, I'm not knocking it in any way.
Obviously, not as far as Buick did, but front and rear flares coming 10-12" onto the door front and rear would smooth the transition out drastically.

Strangely. I've never liked anything Harley Earl designed, especially the fadeaways. Of course, as always, ymmv.

Brianj Im with you steel flares extended on th doors. I like the more squared look of the original fms flares. They match the more squared off lines of a foureye. I never realized how rounded the Maier pieces are.
This is what the Maier 1.5" Flares look like on a Four Eye. These are much better looking IMHO. They have the same basic shape of the OEM fenders at the wheel arches, but gently flare out 1.5".
Thought I had a better photo, but can't find it right now. Hopefully this is a bit better.

What's the point of the flares on that capri? The wheels aren't even wide enough to need them. And the blue car isn't "rice", the wheel edges are flush with the flare. That's the whole reason you use them.
You guys are just old.

The general tire Saleen race cars of the 80's (but not the four eyed #19 and #29 cars) had their door shells cut apart and widened. This allowed a stock body line fender to door and door to quarter but wider wheel openings. You wouldn't know it until you see the door shell that had surgery.
just some racing trivia.
All I can say is that for those of you who don't like the fender flares and wide wheels you will definitely want to steer clear of my build thread when I finally build my street version of this

Heck- for several of us there's a higher likelihood of helping you put that kit on than steering clear of the thread Trey! Awesome!
Trey, you've been threatening to use those parts almost as long as I've been saying I'm going to start going to the gym and quit smoking! Lol

I had no idea they did that. That would allow much smoother of a transition without going onto the doors too far. I'm definitely stealing that idea. I was most likely going to split the fenders and quarters at the top body line to gain an inch or so with out large protruding flares, but for some reason widening the entire door skin to match never occurred to me.
