    Default New doors-adding PW/PL

LTD doors have been rotting on bottom for a while.

Got some decent doors off a marquis a while back.
These already had PW and locks, so grabbed that full harness
    when I got the doors.

I paint OK, but not good enough to paint a car you would want to show,
so I decided to only do door jams and inside of door. Set up
    quasi paint booth.

and paint work came out pretty good.

Also painted lower area of striker/door sill, as my dad had spray painted over those areas
a while back, trying to clean them up.

Snagged factory connection for PW fuse out of fuse box also.

Nice. Is the LTD like the Mustangs, a single harness that runs across the dash to connect each side?

Nope, easier than that. Two large connectors by drivers kick panel
that go to drivers door. Harness runs back to pass rear door, then across
floor and forward to pass doors. Only thing that goes in dash is keyed power
for PW (constant power for PL goes through firewall, to circuit breaker mounted to
start solenoid). Also has two relays for PL under drivers seat, but I think that
    is the same as stangs.

Got some work done on the door panels.
Had the original set of vinyl, bare bones
or these cloth insert panels. Both manual window
and blue. The "power" panels we had are grey
    and kind of ugly/dirty........

First thing was to install metal mount of master PW
gang switch. Luckily, cutout for this switch was already
    pre-punched in the fiber backing

There is also a difference in the panels due to the vent window,
which I guess only comes on cars that had power windows??
Going to have to cut that forward edge down to fit, eventually

So I've never liked the power lock setups on the LTD's.
Unique yes, but not my thing. I also had holes in these panels
from the manual window handle. The PW switch does not go
in the same spot as manual handle, in the front door panels
(it is the same spot in rear panels, oddly).

So I decided to add PL switches and bezels from a stang.

This is what it will look like when done (still need to chrome PL bezel of course).

This is where that PL switch has to fit.

So my thought was just use the switch, without
the plastic backing that normally holds wiring.

And use just 3 of 5 wires from PW wiring setup.

Going to have to figure out how to make that setup a little thinner,
and insulated, but that will have to wait for another day.
Working a cheap keyless entry kit I bought next.

Doors are on. God bless those guys that do bodywork,
the doors are on, but I think it would take me 381,536 tries to align them.
It looks like 6 directions of adjustment on inner and outer bolts, each.

Cleaned her up pretty good and drove out to a local body shop.
    Align all 4 doors.
    Fix minor dings in door.
Paint all 4 doors and lower edge of 1/4 on each side.
Fix small crunch on pass rear 1/4 (right near rear edge of rear door).
Use "Ding-man" to fix single small ding in center of hood.

Estimate was $1276, seems very reasonable.

Still looks pretty good, even with different color doors.

Got a keyless entry system, also has electric trunk release built in.

Mess of wires, but got it all hooked up, works well from a pretty far distance.
@ $27, I bought two of them in case module or remotes ever crap out.

Also got the PW/PL bezels back from my chrome guy.
    Came out pretty nice.

Gave up on the idea of not using the switch backing for power locks.
Too much heat in the switch, trying to solder wires direct, made
switch stop working in one direction.

PL switch backing is going in an area that is recessed.
not as recessed as PW switch area right above it, but enough to
    fit switch backing.

This is actually from a rear door PW setup, so only need 3 of the five wires,
but after install, it isn't really all that thick.

Got the car back from body shop.
Very happy with the job they did.
Also had the pinstripe redone, end to end.
