Default 1985 Saleen - 16" rims use what tires

I'm shopping for some tires to put on my 16" mesh wheels once they are all redone.

I want to know what size an 85 Saleen should wear.

Im hoping to have "1985-006" done by the time of the shows in Nebraska later this year. Candidly I'll have more in it when it's completed than I ever would have imagined, and more than it's worth -- probably.

Who is reminded of the old Jonny Cash song. "One piece at a time".

If they are 16x7's then run a 225/50/16 fits best on the 7 inch wheels, if 8's then run a 245/50/15...

Either of the sizes above will work just fine. If you want to match the original tire diameter, then you will want to run a 225/55/16. That will keep the speedometer correct without having to make any gear changes due to a smaller diameter diameter.

Saleen used 225/50 VR's on the 16" wheels....Fulda Y2000's to be exact for 1985 and 1986. It was an obvious more lower profile than a stock Mustang GT/LX. 225/55 would work just as well (stock size for the Pony wheels) but would not be quite as low profile as how Saleen built them. Also with Saleen lowering the cars (and I believe rolling the fender lips) 225/55 might rub?

I just went out shopping online and much to my disappointment Cooper is now making tires in China and importing them.

Ive always held my ground on buying American. It now looks like the options for doing so are near zero. So much for that

Redlordamazon - 16" Enkei rims look great on your convertible! Nice! Spider-Man sticky too!

225/50/VR16 BF Goodrich G Force tires seem like a good place to start. My mesh wheels need to be reconditioned so I'll probably just have tires shipped to the shop where my 85 gets built when the time comes. Lots of stuff like that were it's important not to jump the gun but also it's needed to finish the car.

my current weathered 205/60/15 tires on weld wheels don't stand a chance..... The motor I'm building should check in at a healthy 400HP/TQ at the crank if it does what similar builds have in every magazine build like it that I've seen. Stone reliable too which is an absolute requirement.

The T5 still might get tossed aside for a T56..... depends on how I am feeling. We shall see. That's even more likely in my 86 build since that one will stay in the stable for life.
