Default Rebuild pictures from the Engine shop

Here are some pictures I just snapped of my engine down at the shop. Just before the heads go on.

Looks like 302, just looking at the lip behind the distributor opening. Love seeing these fresh blocks with that Ford blue! I have a 408w being built right now. Can't wait to go pick it up!

Yes 302, well now a 303 I guess. I was surprised they painted it. Although I liked the metal of the original I think the blue is going to look awesome under the hood. I suspect they will have the new valve springs on tomorrow and am hoping the heads are on so I am going to try and get some more picks. I have built my own engine before and I have to say, I kind of like having professionals do it instead.

If it's .030" over, it will be a 306 cid.

Would the shaved the block (.015) reduce it again? For some reason I can't wrap my mind around that. I guess if CI is measured as simply stroke length and diameter. Pan was on her today and the heads are going on Thursday (waiting on new seals). Name: IMG_20180206_094211.jpg

decking the heads and/or block doesn't change the swept volume, just the clearance volume. So, no, it does not change the displacement the way boring does. It only changes (raises) the cylinder pressure/compression ratio.

All buttoned up now. Just needs the valve covers bolted down.

Just swung by the shop that is installing it, the had it on the new mounts and in the car, just getting it in position to bolt down. I won't be able to pick it up till next Friday due to work so they can take their time. It is still snowing here anyway...

They asked if I wanted to but I decided to stick with the natural state. Less to fuss over.

Think you're gonna love it man.
Just got mine back yesterday. Once disassemble took place mechanic found a hole in #1 cylinder.
He Pulled an 87 roller block and started over. Didn't want to use the xe256h flat tappet I was going to use in the original block so went with a xe258hr (.480 lift one). What went from a bolt on swap turned into a new fresh engine lol.
Mechanic was awesome so no complaints.
Blast to drive, ALL of the low end is still there and more!
Performer 302 intake does well with this set up as does the carb.

Just got mine back. Still tuning it up (was 10 degrees retarded when I picked it up). Not much of a difference from before. Trying to get the CFI dialed in now but I suspect that will be impossible. Watching the air fuel ration on my new gauge and it isn't looking hot. Was way lean so I added some more fuel pressure. We will see. I am going to tune it the best I can, check for codes, and then time 0-60 again. I suspect there will be a new modern TBI in my future...

Engine runs great and looks great too. No longer lays down and dies after 4k, which is nice. Sounds awesome too. Course it sounded great before.

Just took her for a little spin. Anyone know what afr I should see at idle and under acceleration? Idle is 14.5/14.7 bouncing around a little plus or minus .5. under WOT it drops down to 11ish.

And it is pepping up nicely now after driving a bit with the timing fixed. May go up to 14 instead of 12. No pings yet.

Just gave it a good drive. Really looks like the car is pushing it to that 14.5/7 zone. Thinking it is the computer. Odd thing is KOER still gives me a 41 (lean). No other codes though so it looks like the rebuild/transplant was a success. At 75mph it was still in a nice place moving around between 14 and 14.7. Give it gas and it drops into 12 coming up into the 13s as you sit there at WOT. Does not look like a lean condition at all to me. The "car's" o2 sensor is a new cheap generic Bosch (passenger side). The AFR has a brand new wide range in it (drivers side). Now running at 14 degrees advanced too. Runs great. This is all on 87 octane.

14 on 87? No way I’d ever try it!

No clue. I tried to find casting marks on it but could not. It is the stock block from a 1984.5 gt350.

Don't scare me! This thing is not running high compression (8.8 I believe) and I hear nothing that sounds like a detonation or ping or even close. I wonder if the computer has a knock sensor?

The only AFR you can really "tune" with factory EFI is the WOT, with fuel pressure, and at 11-ish to 1 at WOT, I'd say the fuel pressure is adjusted too high right now. What's it at? Factory spec is 39 or 40 psi, and that's normally safe rich... with your modifications, maybe it'll want a few more psi....
