Exhaust tuning on the 4 cyl turbo was also a challenge- all they kept saying is makeit sound like a V8. One more trans item-in about 1981 Product Planning said their studies showed that Mustang buyers prefer auto trans so NO manual transmissions will be released. Car people knew this was ridiculous and we eventually turned this around.

First question (many parts to it!).

    1. Why was there a gap with no T5 production when the T4 gearbox in 1981 3.3 liter Mustangs and Capris is a just a T5 gearbox without the over drive? The T4 and T5's wee very strong. Was it really The 1981 Product Planning studies, or maybee the emissions?

I mean, it wasn't till 1983 that the first Ford to use the T5 gearbox was the 145 hp EECIV Injected 2.3 Turbo, then the 174 hp 5.0 4bbl HO.

Why the use of the Tremec T170 SROD for 1982 and the first half of 1983 with the year and a half delay?

Why didn't the 2.3 liter U shift Tremec T140/142 see service in the 3.3?

2nd. If its okay to ask without separating confidences. We know at Ford, your not just a number. But in order to find whos who....
