Default Butchering yet restoring :p 86 GT build

I bought this car a year ago thinking it was pretty solid and rust free....and I was somewhat wrong. Shock towers rusted out, hatch rusted, a few other small areas as well. So I decided to pull the motor, repair shock towers and save another 86 fro the jaws of death! Here's my build from the end of September...to present. And I know some purists won't enjoy some of this but try and take it easy on me here lol.

    Day 1 of ownership:

Fast forward to my first go around at making it "look better" and just having a little fun driving it.

Found seats front and rear on craigslist btw

Then came a vinyl wrap, cut springs a cervinis hood and some wheels lol.

Then came the engine bay and some real work. Color change to silver YN code...same as my old 98 GT.

    YUCK!!!

After lots and lots of welding, grinding, sanding, filler, sanding, filler, sanding, sanding, sanding and then some sanding, she was ready for primer

Then came base and clear...uncut and unbuffed/polished

Scored a Holley systemax upper/lower and msd distributor from 69clark (sinisbuilt) (Tom Clark) lol.

Then went on to the 5 lug/disc swap.

And that's where I'll leave it. Much more to come soon. Thanks for looking guys

    Very Impressive work!

I doubt you will get any flak from Members here. We all want to see as many Four Eyes running, driving, and on the roads as possible. All of your modifications so far are no different than I myself and many others have made to our own Four Eyes.

Keep up the good work and keep the pictures coming we love that here at FEP! Oh and Welcome to FEP!

What's the plan with the brake lines since you welded the holes closed that back through the inners?

Nice engine bay, you show that in one post, I imagine that took a month or so though.

Will this be a race oriented car? Mini-tubbing?

I look forward to seeing more of your work.

I'm just going to bend new lines, run through the kmember and such. Not really sure exactly how yet honestly. Any tips or tricks are welcome lol

Thanks guys! Wasn't sure if ditching the heater core, shaving wipers etc would be considered butchering. Some get a little upset but I plan to keep her so I'm building it how I'd like it to be. No racecar, just a clean four eye street cruiser.

No judgement on the mods, I've done much more to my car. Your car is looking good.

I do wonder at the decision to run without wipers and a heater for a street car though. Those were things I chose to keep on mine even if I expect to seldom need them. Not having them on the car would really limit the times I would be able to drive it around here. I won't plan to be out in the rain, but it could happen and without those items I'd be stuck waiting it out.

Maybe your climate is better than ours and less unpredictable.

Rainx lol, does wonders. As for heat, I never drive anything I build in the winter. My heater hardly ever seen any use on my old mustangs. Both in which I never ran wipers simply in order to have a cleaner look.

We need heat even in summer up here.

I can't believe how good the car looked to begin with to need all that work! Bummer you kind of got the shaft on that. But, with it all properly repaired and some show car mods, it sure will be one sweet ride when you're done! Really enjoying this build!

Lol...I just noticed you were in Canada. Not quite as bad here. Once I can't be outside with just a hoodie on, the car sits in the garage.

The changes look great so far! I like a nice interior! I was wondering why you got nice new to you four lug wheels and then are changing to five lug? Are they universal?

For the fish eyes, I have been lucky and not had really any issues with that. Probably every other issue though!

I am sure you know already based on the work you have done but ensure you are doing the proper degreasing and cleaning on the substrate and gun. If those patch panels were off the shelf, they probably have a bit of machine oil/preservative from the forming and factory. Likely is that it is coming through the gun from the compressor. Do you have a dryer in line? Maybe need to upgrade or replace. At least the spots you showed are not too obvious locations. Hopefully you can figure it out before you do the rest.
