    Default Frankenstein of an SVO

    I purchased an SVO last year, and the listing was for an 85.5 SVO. It does have brown top injectors, however the fenders and doors are from an 86’ donor SVO with no buck tag. The car has been fully apart at one time because it’s not even a factory color. I found a hint of silver underneath the dash where the steering column goes through the firewall and that’s about it, so I’m almost certain it was a 1E silver metallic car. So, not knowing how the car came to be, is there any way of telling wether or not it was a cloth or leather interior car? Also, it has the 84’/85’ bumpers. Is there anyway to get a confirmation on wether or not it’s an 85 or 85.5 car through the vin? 1FABP28T6FF149135

    FF149135 is a 1985 SVO VIN, not 1985.5

    1FABP28T_FF1_____ = 1985 SVO VIN
    1FABP28T_FF2_____ = 1985½ SVO VIN

    The last "early" 1985 SVO VIN assigned was FF176245.
    The first 1985½ SVO VIN assigned was FF230115.

    I am not the decoding expert that FoxChassis is, but I will comment that the SVO bumpers front and rear are all the same from 84-86. The 84/85 cars use the standard halogen bulbs (sunken in ) The 85.5/86 use the flush aero style composite headlights. All the other lights are the same.

    The 84 cars had black trim and the 85/85.5/86 cars use the charcoal grey trim. That also corresponds to the pinstripes on the tail lights.

    The two tell/tale signs of an 85.5 SVO from the exterior are the flush headlights up front and the lack of a 3rd brake light in the rear spoiler. Good Luck with your SVO and I agree that a Marti Report is the best way to determine what your SVO had original from Ford.

    It is very easy to know whether a 1985 SVO is an "early" 1985 or a "late" 1985 (aka 1985.5). Just look at the sequence number in the VIN. If it begins with "1" it's an early 1985. If it begins with "2" it's a 1985.5.

    Hard to do when driving past them or watching them drive by.

    Yes, I agree that checking the VIN when possible is the best way to verify.
