Default steering wheel puller - what size and pitch on tbe bolts?

    Hi,

I have a puller and none of the bolts fit the wheel (84 Capri). Any idea what size and pitch?

    Thanks

    Chris

Often you can get away without a puller. Back the nut off until it is flush with the end of the shaft. Grab the wheel and put tension on it like you are pulling it off. Then give the nut a good wack with a brass or steel hammer. Some will come off before hitting it.

Thanks. Tried that for a few minutes no luck. Lots of dust from between the wheel and the column, so I suspect there is some rust.

^ yup, lol, done many times... knees at about 4 & 8 o-clock and one hand at 12, apply pulling tension and hit the backed off (flush with shaft) nut.

Default steering wheel puller - what size and pitch on tbe bolts?

This is what I used on my 86 mustang.

Then I used another bolt to push against the column instead of the puller end. Pulled end seemed too wide.

Thanks, yeah I should have added that.

Hope it works out for you!

My puller is a Harbor Freight one. Trey is right on the money, spacing is very tight.

Yes, that would be the correct way to do it.

I have had the best luck using this style of steering wheel puller.

The Mustang bolt spacing is very narrow and the bolt end up at the inner edges of the tool, but it still works very well. That style can often be found at your local auto parts store either for purchase or tool rental.
