    Default SSP Spare tire

    Hello all,

I'm restoring an 86 SSP and was wondering if anyone knows what brand/type of tire Ford used for the spare? I know they used Gatorbacks, but those were directional and unless the officer driving the car was very good and could predict which side the flat would be....

    Thanks
    John

Thats a good question... i wonder
    Edit
I asked an ssp guru, and he stated that it did not matter how the tire was mounted and they still used the gatorbacks.

Although they were the 1988 year model and we know how Ford likes to change things from year to year and sometimes even mid year . . .

When I did the prep work on the Texas DPS Mustangs the spare wheel/tire was an identical match to the 4 wheel/tires on the ground.

You can run a Gatorback in either direction for a short period of time (not ideal I will give you) although the wet weather performance would suffer. I would assume any unit that had a flat that had to be swapped out would immediately go in for maintenance/repairs at the end of the shift and any tire direction issues would be corrected before being put back service.
