Why didnt you just buy the correct tank for the 2-1/4 filler pipe?

Had the same problem when I put the F2C ('84-'86 LTD wagon) tank in a '79 Futura that had the 2 1/4" inlet. I got a 2 1/4-to-2 inch exhaust pipe reducer at the auto parts store, cut a length of 2" tubing to the correct length, and brazed everything together. Also got the gasket for the 2 inch inlet at the Ford dealer.

F2c tank. Going to try a fox mustang filler tube. If that doesn't work I will do the pipe reducer
