Default need advice in Tires.. new setup WIP

My 86 GT convertible is going to be lowered soon... I just got the coilovers and wheels. This is mostly done for the looks. I don't drive my car very often, just for some weekends a year to shows etc. I know the choice of parts might not be the first thing to think about in the USA, but it's quite difficult to get nice parts for reasonable prices from the USA here in the Netherlands... So I made my own choices with parts that can be found in europe.

It already has MM rear control arms.

The rims are 8x17 and 9x17, both are ET20. So backspace on the front will be 5.29" and on rear 5.79" In the back, there comes a spacer (20mm = 0,78") too, in the front there might be a spacer of 5mm needed.

My main question is what size tires I should go with. I think I have to roll my fenders either way...

I am thinking about 255 in the back with 235 in the front, but what heights would be best? Any thoughts?

    Thanks for any help/advice!
    Greets from the Netherlands, Jeroen.

I'm running the same size wheels on mine with 235/45-17 front and 255/40-17 rears. I don't have a good picture showing the tires and wheels on yet though.

Is that on your red-silver project with the black wheels? that's looking pretty awesome... But i'm not planning on rebuilding the complete front fenders...

That's the car. The front fender mods were to accommodate the suspension mods which moved the front wheels 1.5" forward.

245/45/17's fit well on my 17x8 wheels.

I agree with trey - 255/40/17 fit well on 17x9.

You may find that the wider sizes some are running up front will not clear your coil overs. That was one of the big issues I had choosing wheels and tires and why I went for the sizes I did. I could have run wider up front but would have had to keep spacers in and widen or flare the fenders.

So I went for the 255/40/17 on the rear, and got 235/45/17 on the front!

I lowered it, replaced the front bushings for polyurethan versions, replaced the alternator for a 3G version, and fitted the wheels! Still got some work to do... Need spacers on the front, since the tire is rubbing to the coilover, need to roll the fenders (at least on the back) and rewire the alternator...

What do you think of my new look to my '86 'vert?
