What are some good seats for a 82 gt.
What are some good seats for a 82 gt.
Do you want to stay with OEM or aftermarket?
What is your budget
Do you have fab skills
There are endless choices
1986 GT T Top- stock except for magnaflow cat back
1990 LX vert- 500hp V3 and all that stuff
2013 GT- usual bolt ons
Your opinion may vary, but IMHO the biggest issue with many of the aftermarket seats is the style doesn't fit the look of the Four Eyes, especially when talking about the Sparco/Race Seat versions.
Not sure what your budget is or how much you really want to spend. The Corbeau seats from LMR are decent depending on your physical size and you can get a matching rear seat cover from LMR to recover your original rear seat. If you are a larger framed guy like myself then only the GTS2 or the Sport seats are an option for fitment. Personally they are the only styles that look right in the Fox for me, but your opinion may vary.
Of course, there are Recaro seats, but they are generally a bit more $$ than most. You can get the LS style just like what was offered as an option in the 79-82 cars or something a bit more modern. Recaros were available in a ton of European vehicles too, so you can search there.
Another option is later model Mustang seats. The SN95 seats will bolt in by simply swapping seat tracks. The S197 seats supposedly do also, but might need a bit of modification or tweaking, but still a pretty simple swap. One member has even swapped in a set of seats from the S550 models into a Pace Car and I was shocked to say they almost look factory in the car. All of the later model seats are a bit bigger then the Fox seats, so they are more comfortable, but do take up more room in the interior so keep that in mind. Best of Luck!

So you are about the same size as myself. If you are like me and bit bigger in the waist than you want to be, you will definitely not like most of the Corbeau and many other aftermarket seats as they are designed for the slimmer driver.
The GTS II and the Sport seat are both acceptable if you don't mind a bit of a hug around the mid section. If you have wide shoulders like I do, then the GTS II might be confining or you may find it more supportive if you like to drive hard. I highly recommend trying to sit in any seats before you buy them as that is the only way to know for sure. Good Luck!

I put 94 gt seats, for now, in my 79. I too am 6.3 240 lbs. The pass seat was non power and bolted directly in. The drived seat, I abandoned the power track and put the 79 track on it. I had to poke 2 holes in the 94 seat bottom and thread them so I could bolt the track on. There were actually factory marks where I drilled them. Maybe some are actual drilled here. I don't know. Anyhoo, I can actually sit in my car now without my head dragging on the ceiling. I call it a win win. Better seat, that doesn't look too bad and more head room

Due to two door space and suspension design limitations, Ford used the European Taunus/Cortina/Capri/Escort RS2000/ Granada/Falcon seat rack, with a small base. Both the V car (Vauxhall Victor/Ventora/VX and Opel Recod A, B and C based 105" wheel base, 56 inch interior width cars) were working on the same dimesnions. Both Gm's Wayne Cherry and Fords Jack Talnack were busy making the most space with the hard dimensions they were stick with.
The 1979 Recaro Ford Mustang frame was designed in West Germany, and this allowed Ford to experiment with two suppliers, Recaro and Scheel-Mann. Scheel-Mann made the first Escort RS2000 seats in 1975, and it appeared on the 1978 Falcon Cobra as well, continuing as the upper echelon seat till 1983 in the European Sport Pack Fairmont Ghia.
All the basic templates for the Mustang were worked through via Jack Talnack in 1975 at Ford of Europe. The hard dimesions then were uploaded to the Fox program cars.
As of 1984, GM Holden's division used the Scheel seats as well, including the Momo steering wheel system, which was pilfered from DeTomaso's Maserati Kylamai steering wheel conversion in 1976.
Everything the M81 Mclaren used was roughed out in the mid seventies in European and Australian sports Fords.

Modern S550 seats use the same development of the earlier 1975 seat base. Its externally, a little bit smaller than the 1978 XC Falcon
It doesn't matter if your car has less than 53 inches of hip room,
or 59" like this 1978 Falcon Cobra, the basic seat tub was designed around the European hard dimensions, actually minted in 1970 with the TC Cortina and Taunus, Granada cars, and it might have actually been earlier, maybee the 1969 European Capri.
By 1978, everything unibody used the European seat ratchet and runner spacing design, from Fiesta to Falcon
Recaros became the World Rallye Championship seats for Works Ford Escort RS1800's, which was what the RS2000 was based around...a road gong, cooking model Escort with some racing style ideas. For people who like the look of sneakers....but hate the thought of running....
This was the 1975 replacment sport seat
The 1975-1980 Scheel Escort RS2000 production seat was almost exactly the same
By 1982, just the colors changed, but still the same Euro seat
