Default Fuel system to support FITech

I have an '83 with a '89 rebuilt roller. I've worked with the factory carb - most recently adding center-hung float bowls so it would not starve turning right (left was no problem). That did the trick, but it still is a bear to start and I'm about ready to go the aftermarket TBI EFI route (FITech). I've read at least one string here where folks seem to have had good success with the 400HP kit. I'm wondering what the best approach is for a fuel system upgrade? Will a late-Fox EFI fuel pump drop into a 1983 gas tank, or do I need to go to a later year tank as well?

I like the aftermarket TBI approach because I can retain my carb intake, stock air cleaner, etc.

I don't want to invest too much in the fuel system, as I am thinking my engine and trans may find their way into a NA Miata in a couple of years....

    Thanks for the ideas!

I think you 'could' use your stock tank and pick-up if you go with a in-line frame mount pump. I think 3/8" line is recommended though, but maybe 5/16" would suffice. You would need to figure out a return line though. A regulator isn't necessary as the TB is equipped with a regulator and return port. The ECU has a 12V output to run the pump. Also, I highly recommend wiring an inertia switch to disable the pump in the event of an accident.

Inline pump with an inertia switch, stock tank, use the 5/16 line as a return line and run a new 3/8 line as a supply.

Don't forget filters before and after the pump. I think Fitech has recommendations.
