    Question Transmission Cross-Member Bushings Problem?

Working on my '85 GT T-Top car. I wanted to upgrade to the Prothane Urethane bushing kit Item #PT-61603BL
MPN# 61603BL for my trans cross member from LMR. The problem I am having is that the stock cross member uses small bushings instead of the larger ones. I even ordered a new cross member kit that is adjustable from LMR. But it also uses the small bushings. Last, I purchased the upgraded trans cross member mounting bolts w/nuts. The bolts are Very loose when used with the small bushings and sleeve. But if I install the bolts in the larger bushings w/ sleeve it fits with very little clearance like it should. The sleeve for the small bushings is very thin compared to the large bushing kit that uses a beefier sleeve. Not sure what to do. I really want to use the larger bushing kit that is Urethane.

    Thanks

I would call LMR or whoever you ordered them from, according to their site, those two pieces should fit together like butter.

Just curious as to why you want to change the bushings. On my 85 Mustang drag car, I used a stock double hump trans crossmember, with factory rubber bushings and sleeves, and 13 years of 6600 RPM clutch drops on slicks have not seemed to have caused any distress to the factory bushings. I would have to think that harder urethane bushings would have to transmit more vibration through the car.

I used the cross member from LMR on my most recent project and it worked well. I didnt worry too much about the loose fitting bolts, once tightened up it was nice and solid. I suppose you could swap the metric bolts out for some better fitting SAE bolts from the hardware store to ease your mind. You might need to drill out the mounting holes to accomodate the larger bolts. Good Luck

I got lucky and found one sitting next to a few fn 95's on the ground. worked in my 83 fine. Then found another in my parts bin that had been in hiding.

Aint it always the way! I did a rebuild on a 93 Cobra and ended up buying many new parts only to find them in the basement at a later date when the car was sold! I guess I need to get more organized. I was amazed at how much the factory double hump cross members were selling for on ebay. Thats why I went with the aftermarket, couldnt go wrong with a brand new part versus a used factory one that might show up with rusty bushing sleeves.

I would send it all back and get the Stifflers cross member.

I bought it because I had thoughts on going to a TKO some day, ended up going G101a and was still able to shuffle the spacers to work with that.

Nice and solid when bolted down
