    Default My Indy build with T top conversion

    Well the time has come to start working on it. I've had it for over 20 years and I've done nothing to it. Only 36k miles but had a blown turbo on it when I got it. Going to rebuild the turbo and clean and regasket the engine. Then it goes outside for a bath.

    Still have the 82 GT. It's taken apart down to the shell and I've been picking away at the body work.

    Good deal - your 82 was one of those that inspired me to do the resto on my 82 GT T-top car aka the rotter.

    All clean now. In process of rebuilding the turbo. The front bearing went and was pumping oil into the intake.

    Lookin good. Pics of these times are important.
    32k, 38y OE plugs wow. Souvenirs.
    Fun part- reinstall of the turbo. And reconnecting exh. pipes.
    10x easier to do with engine out.

    The best part is hopefully yet to come. The car's 2nd life.
    Driven mine longer (2000-present) that 1st life (1980-1987).
    Am enjoying it even more now.

    Uh, both having bought these cars 20+ years ago reminds me:
    -Retaining them intact, inactive, then reactivating to driveable status. Not always easy to do.
    -Having made at least one smart decision, when younger, that also turned out to be wise.

    Did you have to use a special tool on the timing belt tensioner?

    No. I've always just used a pry bar to give it a little more tension than the spring can give and tightened the set bolt. If you leave it set to the spring tension it will skip when the belt breaks in.

    Good news. Engine done and ready to go back in the car.

    Bad news. Sunroof pan is completely rotted out so you lucky people get to see me do a T-top conversion on this car.

    The factory tailpipe tips are still in good shape. I got a Walker replacement tailpipe for a 87-93 4cyl and I'm going to cut it down and weld the tip on it.

    That twin tip looks mint. I did something similar for my 82 GT, bought an aftermarket twin chrome tip and welded it on to a stock LX 5.0 tail pipe....

    I was debating on getting the splitter the SVOs used and running duals but the original tips are in such good shape I might as well use them.
