Yep, 85 down with a 10" clutch will rub the pressure plate on a 10.5" clutch.. The 10.5" bell house an E6 part number.

There will be some contradicting opinions on this, but I have seen the E3 bellhousing rub on a 10.5" clutch on a few occasions personally.

That kit should have you covered, did the 10.5" swap on my 83 and reused the stock bell housing with out any issues.

Have a 10.5" clutch in my '85 bellhousing, no issues.

Wonder if it is dependent on the make of clutch/diaphragm shape? I'm running a Spec clutch (stage 1).

Bellhousing internal shape is variable on all Fox Ford's, from the 1979- 1981 SROD in line sixes, 1981 in line six T4's and all the V8 SROD and T5 bellhousings before 1986.

Its probably more the variances in the clutch pressure plate fingers, but the clutch plates have to be the stock OEM size, even 1/8" more creates contact issues, and you can't linish the inside of the bellhousing to clear them.

    A good I6 example was Stormin'Norman's.

A typical issue because Ford used a thick alloy bellhousing casting for the Foxes, probably to reduce Noise, Vibration and Harshness.

Ford used two different foundries for the SROD and T5 bell housings. One of them produced T5 housings with a protruding rib that would catch on some aftermarket clutch covers.

Need for Spacers behind the flywheel vs not vs flywheel thickness, pressure plate shape, etc, all matter.

I had the same issues with an 86 bell. Put in what was supposed to be a King Cobra clutch and it ended up hitting. Turned out it was an offshore copy of a king cobra. Made an awful racket when I got it running!!! Had to pull it all back apart (on my back in my 1 car garage) just to grind the inside of the bell and some offending bumps on the pressure plate. If you can get a newer bell you should be all set. Good Luck with the swap.
