Is this a common thing on convertibles? This is top underside of the rear fender lip, trying to figure out what the heck it's for. This on my 83, my other 2 86's (hatchback) do not have them.

My 84 hatch has them also as well as the 84 vert I had. I would imagine it is a fairly common thing. Possibly a release area from the mold and something they used to hang the quarter with before assembly on the car.
Are you trying to roll the fenders and that is getting in the way? If so, it's not really that piece that is the problem, it is the big glob of tar/sealer underneath it. Pop that glob out, which is easy btw, and it will let you continue rolling.

I'm an FEP Supporter and proud of it. Are you?
My 83 Capri has them also
Yeah, fender lip needs to be rolled. Tired of chewing up the 275/40/17's.
