    Default FYI - 1980 Ghia Turbo Carriage Roof - 30K miles 4450

Found on craigslist in Omaha NE

im questioning my own sanity for posting this car rather than buying it but I'm more of a V8 guy. Really looks ultra nice!

I see this as a car to do minor cosmetic work to then show as unrestored.

    Not a convertible. It's a carriage roof.

Interesting. I promise I have never seen this one around as a carriage roof car would leave a lasting impression.

It's nice to see an early four eye in original condition. I like it. I suspect if seen in person it has that look of an non-abused, original condition car which has been cared for, but not necessarily babied. In other words it has tarnish, surface rust, faded paint and plastic, etc. I'm basing this mostly on the underhood pic (kudos to the seller for the pics).

From a MCA Unrestored perspective, this car then becomes a conundrum. Do you do a thorough clean-up and live with the deficiencies? Or is the car "too far gone" and you go ahead and do a restoration, which in this case would be pretty easy? I have had this very conversation with a few car owners at MCA shows who had cars in similar condition.

I have the privilege of judging Unrestored Fox Body cars (mostly Aero cars), often they look like brand new, even with tens of thousands of miles.

Edited post.... yea, image 11 of 13 makes that very clear.

Yea, the rusty and tarnished stuff is a challenge. Finding old original parts in better condition is sometimes an answer but frequently over restoring ends up happening. A repainted pulley or an acid dipped and re sprayed aluminum part, etc. always hard - it's only new once.

I would like to find one without the Carriage top. But it is a very nice looking car.

Still for sale. It has a bunch of factory options not mentioned in the ad; Leather interior, AM/FM cass with Prem. Sound, R. Def, Power Locks, also 1-year only Turbo/Auto?
It would look really good with a set of 16" TRX wheels.
