    Default V8 to Turbo 2.3

Hello All, here is my idea. I have a 82 GT auto that I am kicking around the idea of putting in a turbo 4. The motor and tranny swap is pretty straight up. My concern is the wiring.is there a difference between turbo and V8 cars ? Sticks and autos ? I do want this to be a draw through turbo system like the 79-81 system with an automatic transmission. The car is super clean and low miles so I would like not to butcher it up. If I am missing any info please let me know. Thanks you.

I did this same swap to a Fairmont wagon years ago. The only issue that I remember was the fact that the alternator is on the opposite side of the engine and I had to get a alternator wiring harness from a 4 cyl car. If I can think of anything else I'll post it but i think that was it.

Parts are mostly scarce for the guys running a turbo 4 from the factory. I would find one that is already or leave it alone or modernize it.

Example - turbo 4 from the ecoboost

Direct "plug n play" I did this to my 82 GT back in the day between engine builds to keep it on the road. The only thing that maybe difficult is the kick down linkage if wanting to run an auto, also rember you will need to swap ratios in the rear to keep her fun!

It is impressive, and how about gaining 64hp to the wheels with a tuneup?

If your serious abot this swap the only way to do it is with efi. You could do a factory looking 2.3t swap with nothing more than junkyard and donor car parts and reach 250-300hp fairly easy.

Thank you for all the input. Yes ecoboost Mustang are impressive. I would like to stay old skool with this one. I have seen a couple of turbo Mustang running auto X and ran pretty good. I have also owned 2 SVOs in the past and know the efi side pretty good. Thank you again

EFI will also mean that you need the wire loom and computer that goes with it, but I agree, that is the way to go if you are going to turbo it.
