    Default 79 Cobra Seats

Can anyone tell me more about these seats in my 79 cobra? I'm guessing they're standard for 79, but not sure about other years. I'd like to find an upholstery kit for it, but it doesn't look like it's being made. I was able to find nos fabric, so I may be able to just have them made. Here's a couple pics.

Default 1979 Mustang low back seats

    From 1979 Mustang brochure:
Cobra, 2dr, 3dr- all vinyl high back bucket seats std.
Ghia- all vinyl low back seats std

    Low back buckets pictured-
    Included with interior accent group
    European-style headrests
inertia seat back release (locks upon impact)
    Has the optional cloth/vinyl (red)

    Interior Accent group- includes low-back buckets;
This option had to be ordered on a Cobra to get low-backs. About 108.00 msrp
Package n/a on Ghia because its standard

Std upholstery low back; all crinkle grain vinyl
    Optional upholstery low-back, all models; Check-pattern velour-cloth/vinyl
Optional low back in leather; Ghia and Cobra only

Prob only choice is have auto upholstery shop do them.
Getting the correct cloth fabric is/was the hard part.
    figure 200+/seat

    Other years???
    4 way seat track option????

Well, I went ahead and ordered 3 yards of the fabric. I prefer the high back vinyl, but I'm planning on keeping this one pretty much 100% correct (except for a few mechanical and electrical upgrades). Thanks for the info. I just don't recall seeing this style before and was curious.

Size: 149.1 KB this is what is in mine, and what I remember being in my original one too. I have another 79 cobra and it has the same in black, but has cloth inserts. Though not like you show. I'm not sure if it's original or not

That's what the brochure called it. Handsome crinkle-grain vinyl trim.
Available in White, Black, Red, Chamois (tanlike) Vaquero (copperlike), Medium Wedgewood Blue.
Looks to be a rename of 70's Corinthian Grain Vinyl.

My low backs are black cracked crinkle-grain vinyl.

Low back cloth was called check-pattern with White background.
Same colors as low back vinyl.

Std all vinyl high backs had pebble-grain pattern.
High back cloth was bold pattern Houndstooth
Same colors again, except no White.
Only low backs came in White.

    Leather/vinyl was low back only.
Same color choices as low back vinyl.

    L* - high-back all vinyl
    M - high-back cloth & vinyl
    N - low-back all vinyl
    P - low-back cloth & vinyl w/ interior accent group
    R - low-back leather & vinyl w/ interior accent group

    * = standard

The above info is correct, low back seats cloth and vinyl interior accent group. Mine has this upholstery. It does show up from time to time.

The number of different seat trims and colors available on a 79 is amazing.
