What's the application? Stock motor? High compression? Boost? Nitrous?
The answer depends. The stock coil is great on a stock motor.
The E coil design is more efficient than the old round ones. I just run a MSD one on my blue car, high compression motor, NA. Works well

Like Mike said,
go to the E coil used on later model Fords. Though I would just pull one from the JY.
I'm still using the ACCEL Super Stock chrome canister type Coil for years and works great.
1981 Mustang Coupe: Rebuilt 91/306, Ported E7's, TF Spring kit, E-303 Cam, RPM Intake, Eddy 1406 Carb, FMS Dual Roller Timing set, March UD pulleys, Summit LT Headers, Summit 2-1/2" Chambered Mufflers w/ 2-1/2" FlowTech H-Pipe/ Flowtubes & 2-1/2" LMR SS Tailpipes. C4 trans with 8.8/ 2.73 Rear.
I have a Jacobs coil on mine, not for sale anymore. I believe they sold out to Accel, who removed Jacobs products from the market to eliminate the competition. The old coil still functions well, and keeps the spark lit into high boosted rpm. Plugs gapped at .030, stock gap not working at boost.
Using a later E-core coil on a non-dwell-sensing ignition system like the original Duraspark can cause the ballast
resistance wire to run hotter than it should. And I've never seen any benefits over a stock Motorcraft Duraspark
can style coil.
Don't underestimate the stock Motorcraft Duraspark stuff. It's far more capable than most people understand,
but do avoid cheap generic replacements. The genuine Motorcraft stuff really is that much better.
Cheers,
Jeff Cook
