Here is the part number
Here is the part number
1986 Mustang GT Convertible
What I found was
E2GZ-6742528-B front
E2DZ-5442528-A rear
what Foxreso sent IS NOT the front emblem even though they claim it is

Favorite thing I’ve said that’s been requoted: “"40 year old beercan on wheels with too much motor"
My four eyed foxes:
"Trigger" - 86 Mustang GT - Black with red interior. 5.0 T5 built as Z. Original motor ~1/2 million miles. 18 yr daily, 10 a toy
"Silver" - 85 Mustang Saleen 1985-006? (Lol) Rare 1E silver GT / charcoal interior. The car is a little bit of a mystery. Current project bought as a roller, tons of Saleen / Racecraft pedigree
Also in the stable - my son’s car. 1986 Mustang GT Convertible. Black/Black/Black conversion. 93 leather. VM1 ECU. T5Z
past foxes -
1989 Mustang LX Sport 5.0 AOD white/tan black top. Once I ran this one down I caught a wife.
Wife also had a 1987 Thunderbird Turbo Coupe in the 90's.

That's interesting. The emblem I have (rear deck) is part number E1GB-67420550-BD
Since I am not feeling well and besides its a full day of racing to watch, I have been doing some research in regards to the emblems. Here is what I have found.
E2GZ-8A223-B should be the correct emblem for the front bumper cover for 1983-1986.
E2GZ-6742528-B should be the correct emblem for the rear hatch/trunk lid
The E2DZ-5442528-A emblem is shown as the rear Ford Oval on a 1982 Ford Granada. Might be the same basic emblem, but not 100%.

part number for the front may be E2GZ8A223B
Often shown as E2GZ-8A223-B
Still looking for a light blue front emblem that is in super nice shape and attaches properly.
Is that a Ford Oval emblem?
I ask because the part number appears to be a Granada part number starting in 1981, but the Ford Oval doesn't show to be used in 1981 on the Granada, Mustang, LTD, Fairmont, Futura, or Thunderbird. The only model in the catalog I have that used the Ford Oval in 1981 was the Escort and it is the same E2GZ-6742528-B as mentioned above. I wasn't able to find that part number in the catalog in regards to exterior emblems for 80-86, but then again Ford does some strange stuff.

Its funny, I was just pondering that Trey, when I noticed your question. The emblem was on the car since I bought it several years ago. I removed the emblem last week b/c its in such bad condition. Since I didn't see the part number in your list, I was thinking 'Escort' too, since I know they debuted in '81. Granada(Fairmont platform) is another possibility. On an aside, I thought it was strange the 'L' for Mustang/Capri L had an '81 part number; I thought L, GL, and GLX debuted in '82? Maybe the Escort had the 'L' option in '81.

There ya go
Just looking forward to getting two new ovals, and a few other odds and ends. The items remaining are the 'GT' decals (silver), and if possible the block-off plates for the radio and antenna. What's cool about this car; the rear quarter trim panels in the back never had speakers. Wish I could say the same about the door panels

well...... we'll see what Fox Resto has to say about the emblem they sent us. The mounting is entirely wrong and the blue is blotchy and the chrome is coming off......
the answer so far .... absolutely NOTHING. No email reply, not return phone call. NOTHING.
That "EFI" one is sweet....

Having a little debate with myself about where to put the #6 and how many numbers to use
006
06
6
i think I like 06
with the left edge of the 0 aligned with the center of the low beam
apply with to top of the numbers parallel to the headlights with the top of the numbers straight across from the bump by the high beam.
Average the placement observed on 1984-32 and 1985-01 I guess
Basically how 16 was done
about where the 06 on the 006 is pictured, but drop the leading 0
Next thing will be finding some decent light covers

Lost of stuff to wrap up, side sticker kit to buy, windshield and trim and banner to add, etc .....
But here’s an engineless first preview
also a look at how the Saleen caps were actually made if you pull the “Saleen” sticker off
To pinstripe like #7 or not to pinstripe like #16 — that is another question.
Ive always loved the red stripe on my 1986 GT but I think most will like it with only the Saleen lower stripes.
And BTW Trey — DAMN ! What a beautiful job so far!

A reminder of what the real ones from 85 look like
AFAIK 7 may have been the only 85 to leave Saleen with a dark red upper stripe on the car. Thinking the Medium Canyon Red 86 (35?) had an upper stripe too.
Anyway — Mike Charles allowed me to photograph 7 and 16 before this build got underway and I can’t thank him enough for that. Absolutely amazing cars
I love how you can see where Steve cut the letters out and placed them one at a time from a lettering kit.... probably a $0.99 Kmart special or something.

Since you can see the headrests in the car - here’s a preview of the interior so far.

A reminder of what could have been if this looney owner and all who have helped had not ruined a newly painted 1E Silver GT with all these Saleen parts
Honestly I’m not too broke up about it. Now if someone would just come forward with how this car ended up all Racecraft and Saleen parts to begin with
The car has 16” ARE mesh wheels. Mostly 1986 and up Saleens ended up with ARE or Enkei. With the fascia and spats on the car if it receives 16” wheels Rikens are what it should have gotten
oh well - they never made #6 and never a made Silver one ....
Most of the mid and late 85 Saleens built ended up with Riken wheels that looked like this. I’ll eventually have these painted to match the middle stripe

Car looks awesome! Great work Trey.
Thanks for posting the picture of your centers without decals.

Looking at this thread, wow .... what a transformation its been through.
Then I look at the calendar. The well-intentioned quick build gave way to a lot of outstanding details. The build in its parts collecting and wrench turning forms is coming up on 2 years in September.
And, of course, another SCOA event has came and went. Deadwood isn't as cool as Charlotte but time to think about what remains this year and what is coming up next year.
I guess its time to get a bit more serious about getting stuff done before 2 years works on becoming 3.
My dad and I are making plans now to finally get the engine put together before the end of August. Ideally together, ran, tested, etc. Then we can work with Trey to target when to come down and drop the engine in.
Time to get this beast brought back to life, shake it down, make sure its ready for the road ahead of it.
It might make it to Midwest Fox Fest ..... but only if we hurry.
Well .... 18 days of no updates to report on my end is not exactly hurrying. Life has been nuts for me and I know it has for Trey as well.
My dad and I decided that instead of burning up in the garage next week on the engine that we are going to head up to North Dakota with my boat in tow and knock some things off the old bucket list. Fishing the Missouri river by Garrison Dam will hopefully prove exciting.
I do know I'm excited to be out of this blasted heat Omaha has been having. Its been heat indexes over 110 every day for a while now.
The high's are 85 with a heat index of less than 90 up north. Better!
Good projects take time and patience (in addition to lots of $$). It will get there....

Car is safe and sound at the shop. Locked up and secured as we both deal with life, wife, kids, etc. I am back in Colorado taking care of all the home stuff I haven't been able to deal with while remodeling my parent's house in TX for the last 6 months straight. Dealing with the aftermath of the July 4th fire, and everything else has had me running crazy. On top of that not having my truck here right now doesn't help to get stuff done.
Luckily nothing is going to deteriorate or go bad between now and when the car is finally finished and ready for the road. Have a great weekend with your Dad. Wish my Dad was in better health so that we could do something together too. Unfortunately I know his days are numbered and I try to spend as much time with him as possible. Disappointing that his health and healthcare needs prevent so much especially in regards to travel and available time. Try and stay cool. The heat here has been crazy too with no relief in sight.
