Well, the weekend didn't go as planned, but what else is new RIGHT!
I was able to get the dash into some final primer before the final "blocking" although really tough to block sand this areas, but wanted make sure it was as straight and smooth as possible.
I allowed that to cure for a couple of days, then I sanded it all down one last time to be sure. Then I picked up some "scrap" leather at Hobby Lobby that looked similar in texture to the stock dash texture. I sprayed one medium coat of primer on the dash area and then pressed the piece of leather into the tacky primer. This gave just a slight amount of texture to the surface and helped to blend everything together. Then I allowed that to dry completely. I lightly scuffed the area once again with a grey Scotchbrite and sprayed the grey color in several light coats. Apparently I forgot to take pictures of these steps, so . . . .
Well here is the final product being installed and wired up before the dash goes back into the car.

Was able to get the dash installed yesterday and virtually all of the wiring hooked up. I still need to finish wiring up the speaker and power wires for the stereo and a few other misc items, but we are getting there.
Next will be the carpet, seats, and the rest of the interior trim. Then I have to rebuild the door panels with new backer boards and lower carpet trim.

Boy - she's really looking good!
One of the decisions I've been dreading is if we want to try to figure out how to make the cruise control work or not. Trey I trust your judgement on level of effort and cost. It would be VERY nice if cruise worked when everything was done.
I have found a retired machinist by the name of George Gast who make Aero button 3 spoke wheel plates for the Momo column aero Saleens. He offered to whip up an adapter that will let me install 4 eyed fox steering wheel buttons on a 4 spoke Momo. He wants $400 to make the prototype then it will be an option for anyone with a 4-eyed Saleen.
I have a column and wheel from my 1986 GT here that I've been meaning to pull the buttons out of. If I get the Momo stuff in the same place as George he can probably make short work of it.
decisions decisions.....
Yes, It's a Repro Dash pad.
Sorry it was the end of the day, my knees had given up thanks to the concrete floor and my back was killing me from laying under the dash for a couple of hours. Unfortunately the pad has been sitting in the box for several months now. The other issue is the pad was not sitting down all the way in the front past where the screws attach. I laid it on top of the dash to allow it to relax a bit and then I will determine where I have to drill all the mounting holes since the pad doesn't come with them pre-drilled. I am sure once that is done it will fit just fine. Same dash pad we put on my buddy's 86 SSP, it fit and looked just fine.

Well - my new house finally has a lawn and exterior paint. SO much to do around this place, but high time to get the rotating assembly together too!
Still undecided on the cruise situation
Three steps forward and two back on the car. I guess that is situation normal only this time it’s emblems. In 2018 I well overpaid for a Mustang front emblem in the correct light blue color.
Well, guess what - it fits about as well as a truck in a motorcycle shop
So I bought a new emblem through Dallas Mustangs. Short trip of they send the wrong damn one! I also found a NOS hatch emblem while I was searching for a front emblem.
Also looking for an LX gauge bezel for AC cars that is not all tore up
Soon I’ll get the Saleen stripes ordered.

I have a cruise servo and amplifier if you need them.

Thank you — good to know. Will have to see what’s missing and discuss with Trey.
I am pretty sure all the cruise control parts and pieces are present and accounted for.
The amplifier for the stereo is there too, but wasn't sure you wanted to use it with the new stereo and speakers.

That old amp .... lol, yea they were like 7 watts/ch. My thought is avoid it. Abandon all of the stock speaker wires and run fresh new leads to each speaker.
That Clarion head unit has a lot of power. I just hope the radio doesn’t sound like a ton can without a subwoofer. Wishful thinking probably. The four eyed cars speaker loction in back is terrible. The dash is great but 3.5” is way too small for anthubg but mods and highs.
Oh well - the exhaust note will hopefully make up for it.

Any picture worthy updates of the clone?
Small progress, but no pictures at this time to show. Life has been crazy for me the last couple of weeks. My F250 6.0PSD had a cracked timing cover that would have cost almost $3K to get repaired at an auto repair shop. So instead I fixed it so it would only cost me $1K in parts!
In addition dealing with my Dad needing Dialysis more than his 3 days a week now and the doctors wanting him to do it at home daily now. So been trying to sort that all out with the doctors, my parents, etc.
Hopefully I am able to get back on track shortly.

With vehicles it’s always something! My truck has another hub/bearing assembly going out. It’s $800 to have it changed..... just had the one on the passenger side changed last month! ARG.
I hope things get easier with your dad’s medical care.
Well - NOS front emblem ordered. Ouch
Well you can guess what was sent. It’s not a front emblem
Also clearly not NOS because NEW would come in a bag with a part number!
Last edited by erratic50; 05-24-2019 at 01:25 AM.
Without a part number it’s hard to tell, but that looks like a trunk/hatch emblem. The trunk /hatch emblem will work you just have to cut the guide tabs off and stick it on. The original front bumper emblem is a bolt on. It is hard to tell from the picture but the Blue on that emblem looks darker than the blue used on 86 and older cars. I have NOS emblems in the bag with parts numbers if you need the number.

Mine has the guide tabs and is for the hatch. I don't really care if its lighter blue or darker blue, as long as it looks decent. I need (3) argent GT decals too, along with the grille emblem. If we can get our friend erratic to chime-in, I might even be able to trade him something
