Favorite thing I’ve said that’s been requoted: “"40 year old beercan on wheels with too much motor"
My four eyed foxes:
"Trigger" - 86 Mustang GT - Black with red interior. 5.0 T5 built as Z. Original motor ~1/2 million miles. 18 yr daily, 10 a toy
"Silver" - 85 Mustang Saleen 1985-006? (Lol) Rare 1E silver GT / charcoal interior. The car is a little bit of a mystery. Current project bought as a roller, tons of Saleen / Racecraft pedigree
Also in the stable - my son’s car. 1986 Mustang GT Convertible. Black/Black/Black conversion. 93 leather. VM1 ECU. T5Z
past foxes -
1989 Mustang LX Sport 5.0 AOD white/tan black top. Once I ran this one down I caught a wife.
Wife also had a 1987 Thunderbird Turbo Coupe in the 90's.

Spent last night working then went on to looking for the dust shield that go on the SVO spindles. Does anyone know where to source them from or have any I can buy? Hate to leave them off but that's the only alternative and not particularly safe if I ever find myself in the rain.
Imgonnaregret this but... Why are you using svo spindles instead of going to sn95 spindles which will be easier to get pads and other parts for down the road.

Also good to see you working with Trey.
One question - for us non-Saleen guys, what’s with “006”?
1979 Indy Pace Car Mustang 302 / 5spd
1982 Mustang GT T-Top 302 / 4spd
1986 SVO Mustang - 1C
006 is a Saleen never - EVER - built. Back in the day jack a$$es would build fakes that were given numbers like 6 and try to pass them off as real Saleens! 6 was given to the most fakes out of all the unused numbers afaik. People would claim they were early production and other BS like that and try to pass them off. 6 was reportedly skipped in 85 due to a clerical error.
Also we know the mysterious Racecraft and wing equipped car I have could have only been built originally by someone who had the access and the means to buy the parts. It's been a clone at least in suspension but likely throughout it's entire life it appears. As if the rear wing being for sure a real Saleen wing and all of the Racecraft parts wasn't enough - one of the things that's even more of an oddity about this car is while we unloaded it we discovered one side skirt in the pictures was eurathane, the other was fiberglass. Again, would take someone that REALLY had access to the parts because they were always sold exclusively in pairs and they've always been stupid expensive too.
6 was skipped every year from 1984 until I don't know when. The first production Saleen in 1985 is beautiful grey big wing car Mike Charles owns. #7. The next one actually fully assembled in 85 was 16. The cars that got no changes to sail panels like grey and black were faster to build because no paint work was required around the sail panels.....
I stayed 4 lug on the car for outward appearance of period correctness and because 5 lug mesh wheels identical to those used by Saleen are VERY hard to find. I am using the mesh wheels to hide the rear discs because I do want it to actually stop. I will likely also get a second set of wheels for when I'm not showing the car that are a lot more meaty.
SVO spindles were used to correct Ackerman. They accept 87-93 V8 rotors which are 4 lug while upgrading to 11" brakes. It's a unique approach but I love the feel of Ackerman corrected steering and the only other option there was 5 lug which I'm not doing.

Piles of shipments of parts arriving daily. work proceeding rapidly. Hatch and a few other parts are now in heavy primer, and drying so they can be blocked.
Just finished reviewing plans on the new house. 1700 sq ft main level, 1200 sq ft garage with tall ceilings. Lift time! SWEET!
Wait?!?! Youre building a house and a car at the same time??!! You're crazy, and I love it!
Keep up the work. That body looks amazingly rust free and straight.
I might have said that backwards. Let's call it a garage with attached house..... lol.
I've decided that while the onion heads are neat and all they would be a big performance letdown on a car that has thousands and thousands in suspension and braking mods under it. It needs period parts though -- something rarely seen -- old school. I tracked down and bought an HPM MegaBite caster/camber plate kit.
I may soak the onions in goofoff or carb clean and try to get them presentable again, but they will end up in the parts bin ultimately.
Blast them with baking soda. Theyll look like new.
Good idea. Maybe I'll restore the onions and put them in a case. Not going to leave them on the car as they are just not great compared to plates.
1985GT stock suspension vs this car. Latest summary of the car listing parts from the old school Saleen suspension kit and recent purchases:
1993 conv V8 motor mounts (lowers motor)
MM strut tower brace for carb equipped HO V8
MM subframe connectors
MM panhard bar
4 eye Saleen adjustable Koni struts and shocks
4 eye Saleen Koni quad shocks
4 eyed Saleen front and rear springs
4 eyed Saleen lower K brace
SN95 balljoints on stock replacement control arms
SN95 to SVO balljoint adapters
SVO spindles (corrects Ackerman)
HPS brake pads front and rear
steel piston and sleeve calipers
MM caliper shims
stoptech 4 lug 11" rotors
northern racing TBird/Cobra rear disc conversion
braided brake hoses
MM adjustable proportioning valve
LMR stock proportioning valve plug
MM rear upper and lower control arms
Going to put the onion top setup in the parts bin. Running old school HPM caster/camber plates instead.
Heres hoping it will turn and stop .... All I can say is it should. If my 1986GT ends up being "better" in the handling department I'm going to be steamed. I fully expect it will out brake my Saleen tribute build.
Marti report came today.
Reproduction window sticker and door sticker and dealer invoice are on order.
Looks likely that at some point it may have sat near a Dominator or two.

For those of you who cannot make it to the World of Wheels in Omaha NE this weekend, this is one of the coolest cars there.
1985 Ford Mustang GT medium Canyon Red with red/silver pipe cloth GT interior.
First notice the old school ROH wheels. These were a favorite at the time and a very sought after custom wheel that few had or could afford.
The car was purchased from a nearby ford dealer by the current owner's sister. (I believe the owner Dave said Ashland) The car was special in that it was modified new or immediately after purchase by the late Paul Brown and rolls on a complete "Saleen Racecraft" suspension.
The owner said the entire conversion was done by Brown Racing in Omaha and this conversion was completed by Paul Brown himself right in Omaha back in 1985. Dave said that Kenny Brown has the records from when these conversions were done.
Obviously I need to make some calls as it is likely what my car is as well.
Some Saleen body kit parts and a few different wheel and tire packages were offered. 140 MPH speedometer, etc.
For those following my 1985GT Saleen clone build -- boy does this build on this car ever sound familiar! I believe I may have found "another" car that came to be exactly how mine did.
For an extra $500 the owner optioned this particular car with a 6 point cage with low side bar that was Paul's street car design. Its a moly tube that goes beside the door panel below/beside the GT seats and goes through the floor at the front of the seat and ties into the subframe under the car.
I feel like given the history these cars really should be invited into the fold of the Saleen club but the problem is the historic feud between Kenny and Steve.
ANYWAY - Totally awesome car!
I invited the owner to come join the Forum and I sure hope he does.
If anyone happens to make it out to the show definitely look at this car in detail and get the owner's last name if you can catch it. I was so blown away by what I saw that I've already forgot! [edit - have it now]

A few recent build pics
dig around long enough on any four eyed fox and you will eventually find a speck of rust or two.

In case you ever wondered why you should NEVER EVER put an aftermarket sunroof into a car - here’s why.
Not only do we get to track down a ready for the scrap pile donor that happens to have a straight and solid roof skin we also get to grind out or cut out - whatever is to required to handle the rust caused on the inner structure by the miserable leaking piece of crap sunroof!
For those who don’t know, the aero cars roof metal is thicker than the four eyed cars. Less chance of dents, takes longer to rust through, etc.
Much to our surprise the drivers rear quarter was replaced with a Ford replacement quarter and the roof skin was replaced during the same surgery.
they did a nice job on the quarter and got everything straight but they didn’t do the roof properly. They cut the old skin and left it there then went over it at the rear by the hatch. Cut down on shims but not the right way to do those seams!

Anyone ever thought about transplanting a glass roof into a foxbody? Definitely not this one, but it would be a fun feature to add when we rebuild my 1/2 million mile 1986GT.As you can all see from the primered panels above Trey’s shop is doing an awesome job on this old four eyed fox.
After all the headaches my wife and I are having with the Panoramic Glass roof in her 2015 Edge, I would never in a million years have another one! We have had the stationary glass top crack from apparent body flex/stress TWICE already and had to fight Ford both times as they swear it's a rock chip! It's NOT! Had to pay to replace the actual moveable sunroof panel once already due to a rock chip because it goes all the way forward just behind the windshield. Any small rock/etc. flying off the wheels of a truck/18 wheeler in front of you becomes an insurance nightmare instantly! Now all of this might be different if we didn't live in the ROCKY MOUNTAINS!!! But I will NEVER buy or own another glass roof vehicle! What a PITA!!!!
Ok Soap Box Rant off! Back to your regularly scheduled build thread. Sorry!

Lol. Have one on the MKX and like it but it only has 18K miles so it’s early.
Car can’t be all bad, I have gotten pings from a few that want to buy it. Of course 85 Saleen parts being what they are it’s no huge surprise. The other side is no way anyone would ever pay what I have invested just in the parts, then factor in all the research time.
For now I’ll definately stay the course. I’m going to drive this beast this summer when it’s done!
What about using lexan? Make it semi easy to replace, like the weatherstripping with the beadlock seal. You would definitely need some metal fabrication but it wouldn't be to bad.
