    Default Emblem: Yay or Nay?

So, I'm looking at putting some emblems on my car, finally. The plan, roughly, is to put a Mercury "flying M" trunk lock emblem over the... well, over the trunk lock. Then, an "ES" on the right rear of the trunk lid where it used to say "Zephyr". Then, some "Zephyr" emblems will be on each door.

This emblem originally was not part of the plan, but it's from a Fox LTD (I think), and I kind of like the idea of using it here.

I feel like if this car was, say, an '86-91 or so model, Ford might have done this. It fits well with my "stockish" theme for the car. That said, there's something to be said about simplicity and cleanliness. So, I put it to you, FEP.

Its a cool emblem but I think with regards to your car (which I am a fan of for sure) less is more.

Its funny, I like things clean and simple, and always thought those kinds of badges were kind of silly at the time. But, I actually think that would look good on your car. Its subtle and looks like something the factory would have put there.

I like it. Emblems like that were were common back then on cars with advanced features like EFI, 5-speeds, and ABS.

I really like the idea of the emblems. A finishing touch would be to add the "get it together" seat belt stickers to the door glass. Just my thoughts.

I agree with Fearnot, emblems and even the get it together stickers for a sort of period correct kind of cool.

My inflation reduced 2 cents worth, this kind of emblem is an addition to something else to help it stand out. Maybe a 5.0 above or something to help act as a conversation starter. Love the car!

I'm mostly a no emblem kind of guy. It does depend on the car. My 83L has been badgeless for years while my Black Magic will keep hers. Brad, on your ES, I'd leave them off. Your car is clean enough to not need any more bling.

I like it but IMO that should be the only emblem on the truck lid.

Actually, i do have two of these. And some Mercury muscle car period "302" emblems I'm planning on putting on the front fenders. I could put these below those kind of like "289 high performance" or this:

Be careful. I seen some really nice cars that looked "hokey" because someone got carried away with emblems and badges. IMHO. On this car I think one on the trunk and only one on each fender between the front wheel opening and door gap.

I hear you. I've seen overly-badged cars too. I think you've convinced me to put the "302"s low on the front fenders like a '69 Montego. Where you might not even notice them unless you know to look.

On my RS I put the 347 Stroker logo where the 5.0 Logo use to be and it is really close in size and fit pretty well. It is very similar to the badge you posted above.

Now that I see this I LOVE the Merc badge but don't really like letter badges (I left the LX off both my repainted 85 and 88 all that's on the trunk lids is a 1980 Mustang badge over the Ford oval holes.). IMO with just the Merc badge on there it would look very clean.

I understand what you're saying about the "ES", but consider this. The car's theme is "stockish", but "stockish" much newer than '79 (EFI, larger wheels, more luxo content, 3rd brakelight, rear shoulder belts, etc). This simple arrangement with the brand logo badge and trim level badge, is exactly what Ford was doing with the Mustang LX in the late '80s-early '90s. I also feel like this car would have been in a much more competitive market than the Mustang (plus all the Mustang needed to prove it was a formidable was that "5.0" on the fenders), so maybe they would've wanted to call out some more of its advanced features (at least the way they thought in the '80s), hence the "EFI" emblem.

I also like the "ES" emblem because they never called this package out in any way (not like "FUTURA!!!" or "Z-7!!!!" ). I like to draw attention to it because I think it's such a cool looking package. I think the risk of spoiling its stealth or cleanliness is minimal since the car doesn't really draw attention to itself unless you have some clue what it is.
