My name is Dave, friends know me as fairmontdave. I've had a 1978 Fairmont Futura since 1991, when I originally bought the car for the 302 and C4, for my mom's 1979 Mustang. Her car had the 3.8 V6, which I wasn't fond off, so I rebuilt the 302 and C4 to install in her car. It has been reliable for decades and still running today. But, I had a Fairmont sitting in my driveway with no drivetrain, and a friend was wrecking a late 70's Ford Country Squire station wagon with a block that had frozen and cracked. I paid $40 for it, had the block welded and repaired, paid another $40 for the C6, rebuilt it, and installed it in the Fairmont. With a Edelbrock 460 Torquer, 850 Holley, mild cam, massaged stock heads with Thermactor bump removed, and upgraded C6, I had a monster fun Fairmont! It went toe to toe with a GMC Cyclone, that of all-wheel drive of those days. A buddy had a Grand National which it would dust, a car length a gear. Anyway, Washington later started emission testing and I put in a 1989 5.0 to comply. Originally all stock, it was still fun, lighter in the front end, but I needed more.
I have more to tell. I'd have been here years ago if I had known you existed, my bad!
