    Default Refilling rear diff........

What's the trick to refilling a rear diff while still bolted in the car? Drained my fluid and installed a new cover (finned w/ fill & drain plugs) last night and need to refill it today.
Was thinking possibly to jack up the body & remove one tire & try a hose to the fill plug?

Pretty much have to use a gear lube plunger pump that screws onto the bottle.
    Then pump, pump, pump.

Or like you say, a long hose from the wheel well. Clear vinyl to see the action.
A real long one will let ya keep the tire on.

Or drill an access hole inside the car back there in the floor pan to stick the hose thru and gravity feed.
A new hole that can accept a rubber body plug.

And a large catch basin under there just in case of a spill or drips.

I just use a hose and run it out the side around the wheel and tire. I stick a funnel in the hose and fill away. Gravity is your friend. Obviously the rear will get full while there is still oil in the hose but that is what the drain pan gr79 referenced is for. Maybe not the tidiest method but it's free and it works just fine.

If you have the car jacked up but put your Jack stands on the body so the rear end can hang down as far as possible, I can usually just put a 6inch piece of tubing on the bottle and fill directly to the hole. If the rear is hanging, there should be enough room to fish a bottle between the driveshaft and the exhaust and then the bottle will be a bit higher than the fill hole

Get a marine lower unit pump. $10.

Jack the car up on jack stands on the car not the diff. Pump away.

I've tried the long hose and end up making a mess.

I bought something like this that several others have mentioned about 20 years ago. Works great for rear diffs, transmissions, etc.

That's what I use also. Easy peasy and virtually no mess.

Yep, that's the trick. Don't forget the friction modifier for the traction loc.

If you drive your car on wet or slick roads you may celebrate the day the traction loc goes out. It doesn't take long if you refill without friction modifier btw. 1000 miles or so and you'll have a one wheel wonder when rear tire pressures are equal.

Around 2 psi less on passenger side results in even burnouts with a broken tractionloc.

I broke my traction loc on purpose when I was daily driving my Stang for 18 years. Then I drained it again and refilled it. Way easier to handle on ice.
