    Default 1979 pace car performance

Does anybody know how the 1979 pace cars performance( 302 4 speed) is compared to the 1982 mustang gt? I believe the 82 gt had a bigger 2 barrel but I am not sure. Just curious.

    The 1979 5.0 4 speed was rated at 140 HP and 250 ft/lbs

    The 1982 5.0 4 speed was rated at 157 HP and 240 ft/lbs

So overall I would say the performance was very similar. Compared to today's vehicles, pretty sad and pathetic honestly!

Thank you. My brother had a pace car in the early 80's and I remember it being one of the fastest cars in our small town. Blowing off RX7's and camaro nd firebirds.

My guess would be that it wasn't stock! I had an 84 T/A back in the late 80's with the 305/5 speed and could never beat my buddy's brother's 82 Capri RS 5.0/4spd except on top end speed. My T/A was stock at the time, his 82 had an intake, 4 bbl, and exhaust. So . . . . .
