    Default Core Support Repair

So about 30 years ago I damaged the core support on my 85GT. I lost control on a slick road and dumped it into a gravel parking lot, hitting the culvert area of a ditch in the process. I was lucky the damage wasn't too bad, the passenger side was pushed back several inches, but I never had it fixed. I finally took a stab at doing it myself.

I rigged up a come-along by sinking some anchors in my garage and using high strength bolts.

I was able to get the majority of it out using this method. In fact, it was a bit anti-climatic it worked so easily.

    Default Core Support Repair

Overall, the core support was pulled back into position. However, the top and bottom were skewed such that the walls were not vertical and the bumper cover holes along the bottom were not in line. It took several different attempts to finally arrive at a solution.

I ran a length of angle-iron vertically and clamped it at the top.

I then braced the lip with a short section of angle-iron and persuaded it back in line with a c-clamp.

It isn't as good as new, but it will do and wont be visible once the nose it back on.
