    Default Need a Reliable Repair Source for 1986 SVO & 1988 TC Premium Sound Radios ?

    Finally have come to the point where the Premium Sound System in the SVO needs to be repaired - Cassette Needs Attention ( probably the Drive belt) and Volume Pot also needs attention. I believe a few years ago that several FEP members listed a Repair shop in the Mid West or South East that did good reliable work.

    1988 TC Needs Same for the Radio as well as AMP On/Off switch not functioning

    Aftermarket Units ARE NOT an Option - Give we show both cars

    Any Help ?

    Thanks - Had not thought of that option. Guess sometimes going back to the Original, Pre-Internet, method of Car Parts research still works.

    If the radios are out of the car, why not take the lids off and spray some electronics cleaner into the volume pots yourself? That stuff works wonders...I use it on all my volume pots for my guitars, and stereos that develop the static. As for the cassette, you should be able to get to the belt and replace that yourself with the lid off as well. That amp pull switch, I can't say for sure but if it is not functioning it could be toast or again might be solved with the electronics cleaner on the contacts? You should also check with MIKE'SVO86 as I think he has some of those amp pulls in his stashing he is selling in the classifieds.

    If you don't want to tare into the radios yourself...ship them to me and I'll clean the pots for you and see if I can find a replacement belt. No charge...just shipping to and from. I've been tinkering with electronics both as a hobby and profession for over 20 years.

    Belts are cheap BTW: http://studiosoundelectronics.com/cassette.htm

    Default Perfect for Multiple Cleaning, Detailing Tasks

    Jason;

    Thanks for your interest in my Radio Issues. Your thoughts are what my Plan"B" effectively is. Just presently short on Garage time from 55 + Hour work weeks and travel. Cassette Belt Drive / Head Cleaning was something that I planed as part of Plan"B" given there has been no luck in my search for reliable local /long distance radio repair services. Hoping for respite from 55 Hr Weeks within the month. Then perhaps with some free weekends I can get cracking on a Premium Sound System Solution.

    Again thanks for the Offer -

    Later;

    EJ

    I'm not sure of the guy that sells at The Columbus Ford swaps. I'm sure I have a card here somewhere, but we used to get the power button's for the TC equalizer's from this place http://rtgrim.com/ (they used to have one somewhat local to us).

    Yah ot sucks, especially if it is forced.
    Its not because of laziness.
    A lot of single household workers have to move on somewhere else because of the hardship it causes.
    Even if affordable, how ya gonna stay home supervising hired workers for, say, home repairs?
    Who needs to be forced to work 2 jobs? 40 hr + the ot which is like a 2nd job.
    Employers seem to be dumbfounded at this simple math.

    Anyway, one source for radio repair:
    Inquire at a local auto dealer where they send theirs.

    Plumkrazy:

    Did not inquire as to that capability-

    We currently use the Cassette Adapter and plug it in to our I-Phones or I-Pods when driving to cruises or shows.

    But I will ask prior to sending my unit for estimate and put their response here on this thread.

    You're Welcome EJ ! I'm glad they will still do our factory stuff still.

    We used to have one near Pittsburgh, Pa, but I don't think they're there anymore (unless they moved). The factory radio in my 86 TC had a sticker on from there. They must have done some work on it at some point before I bought the car. They were right around the Ford dealer where it originally came from.

    Kendal:

    Thanks for your response !

    I spoke with Mr. Blankenship a few weeks ago as he was one of the first sources that I researched or had recommended to me. He does in fact do Ford radios - Just not beyond the early 1970's .

    Thanks very much.
