    Default Chrome trim piece?

What's the piece called that sits at the bottom edge of the front side windows on the doors? It's a chrome piece and it has tabs that sit in holes on the top edge of the door.
It sits right next to the outer window seal/dew wipe on the flat spot before the panel makes the 60* bend downward.
My right side one is missing and I've just started searching for it online.
No luck using search terms that are: trim...body trim...chrome window trim....door trim...moldings....etc.
I can try and put up some pics if that will be helpful.
There's something for 87-93 called outer belt moldings but nothing for 79.

It's called "outer door molding". The belt moldings are the ones that are right under the windows themselves.

Thank you. Did a quick search and found nothing. Besides the wrecking yards, where can I find one? Are they on other years of mustangs through 84 or 85?

Unfortunately, the only repros are being made for '87 and up, but they are attached differently. They are on cars through 86, but painted black. When I repainted mine on my '84, I could see the chrome underneath. Sourcing a set through a salvage yard is your only option, unless someone has an NOS pair laying about.

    Not yet.

But yes, the outer piece that runs from under the mirror to the back of the door is what I'm after.

Is that black paint over chrome?

Had a chance to really check out the trim piece on the drivers side and it looks like badly faded chrome, but around the edge, it has some flat black paint on it.
So, I think the paint faded away and it really was black.

Upon closer inspection I'm not sure that lower trim was on all the cars. Only my 2 cobras have them. The 80 and 83 dont have them. Maybe a pro will chime in.

It appears my 81 has them, chrome all over , not chrome under black paint

Are we talking about the same piece, the one the has the out dew wipe rubber on it?

No not all the cars had them. I am not 100% on which cars actually have the trim pieces. My 79 PC has/had them and I have seen them on the Cobra's. I have seen them on other cars as I believe they were part of an exterior trim package. They appear to be standard on all the convertibles for the 4 Eyes too IIRC.

    NOPE!

The piece you are talking about is the actual dew wipe trim or outer belt molding trim that sits on the top of the door shell to hide the pinch weld of the inner and outer shells.

The trim piece they are talking about would sit perpendicular to the belt molding on the top horizontal section of the door just under the belt molding and the side mirror. The was a matching trim piece that was on the rear quarter panels too just under the quarter window trim. Hope that explains it. If I wasn't so lazy I would go take a picture of the PC for you, but . . . . . .

Top pic is of passenger door, above the stripe where the holes are, is of the missing piece.
Bottom pic is of the drivers door.
Like some have said, not all cars had them. My 82 GT doesn't have them or I would have used the one for the passenger door.
Just trying to clear up any confusion.
