A lot of 7.5" rearends grenade behind a decent 5.0 and 5 speed.
You did not say which gear set your T5 has or what you plan to do with the car.
Best generic recommendation for all around street manners and some additional acceleration over stock is
8.8 quad shock rear end with 3.27:1 or 3.55:1 rear gears.
FYI - a stock 86 with WC T5 usually had a 2.73:1 rear gear. A few had a 3.08. You can tell by RPM in 4th at 55. A 2.73 will be about 55 at 2???
87-93 T5 were 3.35:1 1st gear, 0.68:1 5th and pairs great with a 3.27 or 3.55. Some prefer 3.73. Mostly 1/4 mile track and cruise around town cars ...... or cars with tall slicks ...... often have 4.10's.
FRPP T5Z is 2.95:1 1st, 0.63:1 5th and pairs great with 3.73 - 4.10. Track cars may get a 4.30 or 4.56.
Use an RPM calculator. There's a tag on your T5 that tells us what it is. Your door tag should tell us rearend too.

FYI - I have 3.55's listed in FS. As soon as I finish rebuilding my fox 8.8 to 5 lug with sn95 brakes I'll have the extra parts to make a spare 8.8. 4 lug fox width with drums or 5 lug SN95 width with no calipers or rotors. It's under my car right now though.

Yea - lol. Stock 2.73's with a T5Z and engine upgrades to turn R's allow 60 mph at 6200 RPM in 1st. Around 88 in 2nd. Yikes!
Im going to swap over to either 3.90:1 or 4.10. Still need to order the gears....
