The ads are following the eyeballs. TV is slowly dying a non-profitable death and channels are starting to find more and more ways to keep cash-flow going. I stopped TV service a few years ago and I can barely stand to watch TV when I'm traveling. I'd rather stream something, which is where the ads are showing up more and more. I am more familiar with YouTube than any other streaming service, but I can tell you ad rates there are getting cheaper and cheaper all the time as video supply becomes more and more available. I'm sure TV is doing the same, so companies can now buy more air time for the same money as a year ago. Also channels are getting cheaper to produce all the time as most are starting to go more and more to "reality" based TV. Other than people filming and editing, it's pretty cheap to make and distribute as there's rarely a studio to keep up on. It's usually on location for the episode or at a garage somewhere. The last time I watched Velocity it was almost the same commercials at every 10 minute break. Watching the channel for a couple hours and you can about recite the commercials word for word.

We had planned on having internet only (no cable) but our local cable company is the only internet service provider around here. They offer a package deal (not much of a deal...still outrageous) and limit your internet usage, so it's not unlimited service. In other words, it's set up so you don't use it for streaming and pretty much have to get cable too.

It's too bad the a$$hole bean counters who make such corporate decisions aren't on the front lines of damage control. I hope anybody in BotoPhucket employ have life boats, they're gonna need 'em.

Seems to me if photobucket wants to redeem themselves at all at this point they should look at their wording. As they said something to the effect of "this day forward" or "moving forward" then it would be in everyone's best interest to stick to just having this new format count toward FUTURE images hosted with them rather than undoing everyone's hard work. Ego will doubtfully let them do any roll backs, but then if they wanted people who are using them free to go away then they accomplished that. This little act will free up a lot of server space for those crazy enough to pay for their service. Maybe that was their plan.

So, I finally got a BotoPhucket reply, the one and only reply ever, and it's got me rolling on the floor, but nauseated at the same time...

    Recapping, here's what I sent Monday, July 17, 2017:
"I wish to download MY entire "bucket", which I have been able to do in the past, and now am unable to do. I just jumped through all of your goddamn hoops to download numerous sub folders worth of images at a time to zip files to my email, and MINUTES later, NOT your stated 12 hour period to download, the links send me to a page that tells me the downloads are no longer EFFING available. Enough of wasting hours of my time. Instruct me precisely how to download MY entire "bucket" so that MY images do not go down with the sinking ship run by bean counters that photobucket has become. Thank you."

BotoPhucket response, Thursday, July 20, 2017:
    "Hello,
We haven't heard back from you in a few days so we're checking in with you! We're hoping this means our suggestions (suggestions... WHAT SUGGESTIONS?) have worked, or you've answered your question yourself. If this is the case, well done! If your question is still unanswered, don't worry! You can reply back to this email and re-open the ticket, or if its been a while, it will open a new ticket.
    Thank you,
    Your Photobucket Support Robot"

Yep - they should go pound sand!

Personally I've enjoyed having a WesternDigital Mycloud. Mine has mirrored drives and supports sync to another drive. Been planning to put one at my parents house and turning sync loose.

Its setting in now that PB has pretty much ruined the main thing I even use the internet for. Twice now I have tried to search for old info/pictures about stuff I needed to look back on for my 2.3t Ranger build and both times all I found was missing links.

For fun go check out PB facebook page and read some of the rage on there and add your own!

You know - I'll bet sites like the Internet time machine has a shot at having some of the files. I just looked at a website for a company that was bought out in 1998 and the parent that went bankrupt in 2001. Nuts.....

You probably just jinxed yourself by mentioning that. I don't think $9.99/year will cut it in the long term when they want $399/year.

It seems like every time someone posts "my stuff's still working" the next post they put up says "not anymore".

    Good Luck!

Don't get me started! The Toyota site I'm on doesn't host pics, so all of my stuff there disappeared.
I've been getting my online Ford fix in the Dentside forum at Ford Truck Enthusiasts, (You wouldn't believe how busy that page is!) and luckily they host pics for members like this site does. I think the best thing to do is to host your pics on a forum if it's set up for it. Although I had a bunch of scanned pics hosted in my gallery here, which were lost after an upgrade in '08 or '09? As a result of that, I'd assumed that botophucket was the safer option...
I also checked and luckily found pics in my computer of when I drilled my GT40Ps for thermactor air at the rear ports, and I put them back in the write-up thread I did, hosting them here. (Almost 6000 views!) I left the shameful panhandleresque botophucket 'images' for all to see. I wonder what will happen to those if botophucket drops off of the web.

Maybe hackers will come up with a work-around program.

It sounds to me like cheap and widely available image hosting might be around the corner...

Zap, can you explain how you linked it with Google photos?

I'm still not convinced I want to let anyone host my photos anymore and some may have noted I haven't posted much content lately. If I have it was through the site here.

I have a plan to host my own from now on but still need a few more things: research more info to execute, a plan to upgrade my 2009 desktop and set up the old one to use for a server and the time to do it of course.

I went to the main splash page (I have a Gmail account) and clicked on the Grid in the upper right corner, then Photos in the drop down menu. Followed the prompts. I did not do the mobile account stuff. The "Copy Image Location" link is super long compared to Photobucket, but it's all cut and paste anyways.

So is there no way to host pictures free now I guess? I tried Google Drive and Flickr and they both will let you post a LINK to your pictures and give you free space, there is no way to actually embed an image on a website.

Supposedly you can click on "share" in flickr and when I click on embedded I get this, which obviously is not a valid link to a photo.

I tried to sign up for imgur but no way am I giving them all the information they want. They want addresses, names, SSN, they want to be able to access your internet history, download all your cookies etc. I can't believe they still exist. Pass on that.

"my stuff's still working".... its not about luck or fortune, but I paid the 100 bucks "rent" to preserve something. Had free PB Photo for 8 years, now its time for me to pay the rent. Personal note to self, not a note to everyone, 'cause we are all different.

IMHO, unless you've had a really kick a55 good system like that old Hewlitt Packard Photo account that's gone west like I did, you won't ever know how cool it is to save 2500 photos in high resolution, and be able to access them, anywhere, any time.

Paying exorbitant rent, well you have to decide if your letting someone else make you feel like 99 or 399 a year US is beeing an idiot.

If your unhappy, the Frank Zappa KMA always works with people who call you an idiot...

I am happy. I can re-post 170 pictures from someone elses album in 63 minutes. The stop bit is the adds and other junk that go away when you put in your Login and password details.

Personally I build my own servers and run my own email that hosting guys can't mine and run web servers that serve ....... me. But I pay for a domain name and I pay for a static IP and I pay for lots of other infrastructure to make it all work.

At this point call it a hobby I guess. At one time I helped start an ISP that served about 1/2 the rural areas in the state, and started the very first DSL service anywhere in the Midwest.

Now if I could just talk myself into working so hard at my poor abused old 86GT.

I'm using flickr and not having any problems embedding pics.

After uploading a pic to flickr you simply click on it which brings up this screen:

Now click on the arrow that bends to the right in the lower right of the screen and it will bring up this screen:

In this screen you can copy the image code and paste it into your post. I always delete the parts of the code before and after the [img] and [/img] tags to remove the flickr ID from the pic, but you don't have to do that.

You will then have a pic embedded in your post like this:

It's a few more steps than PB was but pretty easy after you do it a few times.
