I have a bunch of professionally (by '80s standards) produced VHS tapes I am currently converting to digital DVDs using some equipment I purchased. They have some neat Four Eye related sections in them. I purchased these tapes new and have the original copies and boxes. Am I allowed to post snippets of these to share on here? Not sure about copyright laws and such. And I imagine it will take a decent investment of my time to get them uploaded and figure out how to link them etc. Don't want to waste my time to have you take them down.

    Thanks

I'm good with it and would love to see them! But then I'm not anything around here and carry no weight. Anyone in the legal department able to weigh in here?

Homer, this may not help you and the admins, but at least it is a bump. The subject of fair use seems to be complicated. I'm not an attorney and this is not legal advice, but in my opinion I don't think there would be a legal problem. It sounds like you only want to publish a small portion of each work, you won't be making money from this effort, and you might even add some of your colorful commentary that would benefit our community. Have you thought about uploading the snippets to YouTube and then linking here? Maybe even send an email to YouTube asking for clarification? Good luck with your project ... I'd like to see the videos.

It's unlikely they would have renewed the copyright on 80's stuff, so it should be public domain.

Google the producer of the video and see if they are even still in business. That was almost 40 years ago!
