    Thanks Mick,
I knew that somewhere on the buck tag it stated whether it was a single or dual wing, but didn't remember where. The original order form has
    "Single rear spoiler
    Power door locks/Trunk release"
written on the face of it in black ink. The balance of the writing to fill out the form is brown, so it is probably a carbon copy.
I wondered about this, but the (12) on the buck tag shows me that it did come with dual wings originally.

If the build was a mistake, and it was supposed to have come with a single wing rear spoiler, it would not be the only one.

Are you saying that it would not have been the only 84 single wing around, or that it would not be the only one ordered with single wing that didn't come out the door like it was ordered?

Other SVOs that were specifically ordered with a single-wing, but were mistakenly built with a double-wing, have been documented.

I did not know that "single wing" option was available in '84. My understanding is that became available in '86 and yes, there are documented instances of mistakes being made on the assembly line with that option.

The 1984 Car Facts Book, in the Mustang SVO and standard equipment sections, indicates that the single wing rear spoiler was optional on the SVO, but it is not in the optional equipment list in that same book. It is also not mentioned anywhere in the the 08/83 or 12/83 U.S. showroom brochures, or the 5-9-83 Rapid-Spec Ordering Guide.

It is mentioned extensively in the 1985 literature.

    Hello All,
OK, nearly five months later, and we are back visiting grandkids in Spokane.
We have retrieved the SVO from where we left it stored while away, & are getting it ready to drive to Az. in a few days.
A far as I can see, it is ready to make the 1500 mile trip, but then with a thirty year old car who ever knows!

    Good luck and safe travels.
Take at least the basic tools with you plus the tool for the ignition mudule. A small tool box goes with me on every long trip with an old car. You never know.

Thanks Dagenham, but I have to plead stupidity on that one. I have a small tool box with some of the essentials including duct tape, bailing wire etc.
I am not sure what an ignition module tool looks like.
Are you talking about the ignition switch module on the steering column?

Well, I never did find out what tool for the ignition module I needed before leaving Washington...........?

On the way home, we took a side trip through St George Utah. One of the places that we stopped along the way was Marble Canyon/Glenn's Ferry which is just before the Colorado River drops into the Grand Canyon.
This is a pic of the SVO parked near the river.

Anyway to finish the story, we made it home without mishap or vehicle problems and the SVO is now safely parked in the garage in Humboldt Az.

Congrats on the road trip. The module mentioned above is the Ignition Control Module (ICM) or sometimes called the TFI. It's mounted to the side of the distributor and requires a special small socket to remove the 2 x hex headed fasteners.

Mine died earlier this year less than 10 miles from my house. Ended costing me ~$100 for a tow.

Thank you for that info jturbo.........I kind of suspected it was for the TFI, but wasn't sure that was what dagenham meant.

    Thanks Drew,
Sue & I really enjoyed driving it on the trip, even that many miles with no cruise control wasn't that bad.

We feel that it did quite well during the 1500 mile trip.
On the last day of the trip, it did flutter/stutter once, so I shut it down and then restarted it and it was back to purring as it should.
(I will be replacing the fuel filter and hoping I don't have to drop & drain the tank).

It only averaged about 23mgp...............I was hoping for a bit better mileage, but I couldn't resist spooling it a up a bit around many of the great curves between Spokane & Arizona.

Overall, it was a nice trip for the two of us in a 33 year old sporty little Ford
