    Default Fairmont door glass

I am in need of the plastic piece of the drivers side door glass on my 1978 Fairmont 2 door sedan (boxtop). This is the piece that was riveted to the bottom of the door glass , that the window regulator slides into, to raise & lower the glass. I was wondering if anybody knows if this piece is the same for 2 & 4 door sedans, Futuras, and wagons, or if it is unique to the 2 door sedan.

I know a lot about that, as a matter of fact!

Glass brackets were the same 2 or 4 door, front or rear, Fairmont, Zephyr, Granada, Cougar, LTD, Marquis. The later metal ones are far more desirable, less prone to breaking. Part number E3BZ-5423289-A

Thats great information, so the same metal brackets were used on all the FOX models except Mustang/Capris? Do you know the model year range these brackets were used? I will likely need to find the bracket at a wrecking yard, and buy the door glass as well just to get the bracket. Thanks.

All the models I mentioned at least. I can't say for sure about T-birds and stuff. I think the metal ones started in '81, so '81-86. I found mine at rearcounter.com. you put the part number in, and it searches their network of NOS stuff. You can try putting the part number into eBay too.

Do you know if the metal bracket is the same for manual and power windows? I checked inventory of a semi local Ford wrecking yard, which showed that they actually had a LF door glass for a 78 Zephyr 2 door sedan, so I drove 1/2 hour to the yard, they directed me to a huge and well organized rack of door glass. I easily found the window, but unfortunately, the bracket that I need was missing. I checked a whole bunch of other models, all were missing the bracket. When I asked an employee, he said that remove the glass by drilling out the rivets holding the bracket to the glass, normally leave the bracket and guide in the door. Since the car was long gone from stock, it was a wasted trip. (sigh).

I'm fairly certain the metal bracket would be the same power or manual. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if the metal bracket was developed because the plastic one didn't hold up to power window duty. Bummer about your trip. That's happened to me enough times.

Well, I guess I got lucky. I called a buddy that has parted out dozens of older Fords, and he just happened to have both left side doors from a 83 Granada wagon he parted out about 15 years ago. We dragged the LF door out, and removed the bracket and plastic bushings that fit into the windows mounting holes. I should know by Monday if it will all work out. Thanks for the info!

Hey Boxtop, what kind of condition are your doors in? Years ago, I cut the crash bars out of my 78s doors, and at the time decided to replacde the door windows with Lexan, and cut away much of the inner structure from both doors. Thanks to Zephyr EFIs tip, I was able to use the metal window bracket from the buddys 83 Granda, and now have the factory glass and regulator back in place and functioning properly. However, I guess I cut away too much of the passenger door guts out, so I am missing the mounting area for the pass side regulator. I wouldn`t mind finding a rusty passenger side door to cut out the regulator mounting area, and welding it into my door, so I could put that back to normal. But I would hate to chop up a nice door. I wonder if maybe I could use a piece from a 4 door? Anybody know? After the hot weekend we had at Mission Raceway a couple of weeks ago, I look foreward to being able to roll the window down again!

Hi, my doors are pretty good, I have a 2 door so they are my insurance doors. I read about the later glass brackets and will keep an eye out for some. I know of a possible parts wagon in Blaine, will see if someone home next time I'm down there. Good luck in Seattle
