320-350-ish at the crank. A single plane intake might work a bit better up top. More carb wouldn't hurt, either. It depends on how high you are willing to rev it up, too.

Well since we're just guessing I'll throw mine out there. I'll say 325 at the wheels, so around 370ish at the flywheel. Probably need to wind it up pretty good for those numbers.

I built a similar combo years ago. 306, flat top pistons, xe274 hyd roller, Edelbrock rpm heads, Performer rpm intake and 750 Edelbrock carb. made 320 rwhp and 310 rwtq. Your combo might do better with those AFR heads.

Anybody remember Joe Sherman's (Joe Sherman Racing Engines) 400 horsepower 302 (306) build-up with the backward-installed flat-top pistons? The magazine/s (June 1998 "5.0 Mustang" magazine was one...) mistook the compression ratio at 9.54:1, when it was actually 10.54:1. It used early ('64 to '67) 289 small chamber 54cc heads, ported, with Chevy 1.94" (reduced to 1.88" for plug clearance) 1.60" valves, ported intakes, an Isky 280H flat tappet hydraulic camshaft, and stock rocker arms... and the results were:
- Performer RPM: ~370ft-lbs @ 4500rpm & ~388hp @ 6250rpm
- Victor Jr: ~370ft-lbs @ 5000rpm & ~401hp @ 6500rpm
To quote Mr. Sherman: "... To put the 400 HP in better perspective, I did a vintage road race 302 last year, and with AFR heads and a solid roller cam, RPM intake and 750 carb. It made 477 HP at 7500 RPM. A good 306 will make 430-440 HP if everything is real good."

I am betting 350-360 to the wheels, I have that same cam in my RS and it runs strong up to around 6,250 RPM on my build, maybe higher on yours because of the heads.

There are SO many factors that go into what these motors will run. Actual lift and duration of the valve is not just a function of the cam -- it is hugely influenced by how well the valves are controlled. Then you start seeing what happens across the rev range and up top where parts love to make their presence known by breaking.
How many of us have heard of guys getting exotic with valves, retainers, springs, lifter tweaks, and even oil pressure and pushrods..... and getting past 9000 out of a stock cam HO engine? Oh - not many but some.
I used to make fun of my dads habit of cranking oil pressure up to the moon until I started really looking at it. Eventually you start to see how oil pressure influences lifters and short of nearly bottoming them out on purpose or shimming them near solid it's one of the few other ways to realize the lift potential of a cam. About the time he was coaxing mostly stock part in Chevy 283's and 327's and Buick 350's from the 60's and 70's era past 8700 -- willingly -- I saw his point. But the devil is in the details and things like being able to retain bearings at high oil pressure and volume comes into play for sure.
Sufficient to say my 351W with fuelie heads and 360 degree offy on top got some of the same treatments and surprised the living hell out of most people - even me.

When you start to look at some of the tricks employed in coaxing RPM out of basically junk parts it becomes clear why the tricks can't really be used on a street motor.
Anyway - fun stuff.
With a great set of heads on a 302 with a stock cam and 1.7:1 rockers and decent headers and induction and spark should be able to kick out just slightly north or south or 400 at the crank at 6000. If it's not, i would start by looking at valvetrain.

Well I had it on the dyno 2 passes. The first one didn't get a reading second one was 285/288 at tires. All cars that made 2 passes were down around 20 horse from first pull, really hot day. I hoped for more but that was with plugs that were fouled, haven't had a timing light on it yet and running rich (fouled plugs). I have since went from 67 main jets to 65 mains. Seems to have helped as it isn't popping at high rpm anymore. daryl1980mustang.pdf

See your hp curve was still climbing at 6500, so had you been able to spin it out farther the 185 heads probably would have made a bit more power for ya.
If you blink at the end of the straight away you'll miss the twisties and what fun would that be!

My bet is timing is needed. Maybe more base, maybe heavier weights, maybe vacuum advance problems showing their ugly self. Just a guess.
There's a LOT left with a proper tuning session. I think 325 at the tires is easily achievable with those parts.
