Remove the starter and look up. Casting numbers will be there.

Dec 1982 block changed from two-piece rear main seal to one-piece. So 1983 could have two blocks.

    E0AE-6010-??

It would be good to have an accurate list of engineering numbers from the original blocks in all the Foxes that this site covers.

This is all I could come up with for 1979-95 Mustang 5.0L blocks:

    1979 - D8VE-6010-??
    1982-83 - E0AE-6010-?? (Nov 1982 and earlier)
    1983-84 - E2AE-6010-?? (Dec 1982 and later)
    1985 - E5AE-6010-??
    1986 - E6SE-6010-??
    1987-90 - E7TE-6010-??
    1991-95 - F1SE-6010-??

I did not include the suffix because there is quite a bit of conflicting info on the 'net.

If you want the rest aka The 2.3L etc, let me know, I have them all.

What I'll be looking for is pics of actual engineering numbers from original blocks. I do not want to rely on numbers from books or the Internet. I tried that this morning and, depending on the source, the suffix was different.

    Thur, thur, thur....

Very late four eye SO 5.0

    Early 302's

Fox Chassis found this 1986 ETTE or maybee E7TE block, probably not a Mustang engine.

And a close to ball park 1980 302 engine, but with a remanufactured block, and no 1Z273851 1247 engine number

    block with EOAE D3C 4 and 3D26.

    http://broncozone.com/topic/17199-fo...fication-help/

The casting engineering numbers sure do vary.

The numbers on the net aren't trustworthy....good for a start, but everything has to be proven right to be of benefit. An old block from any Fox from 79 to 86 is of worth to match the in book casting numbers to the production science...

The numbers are there. They're on all 302 blocks in that same area.

It requires some jetted iso propyl alcohol and s mirror to see everything with the pesky starter and K member brace and header tube down pipe in place. Down here we have chip seal, winter road grit, and calcium magnesium acetate road salt, so just be sure you flush der shizen away from your good low mount starter and soleniod wiring.

I do it with a fluid bottle with a 90 degree jet of about 40 thou nozzel size, and my Phowershot A495 with my wifes make-up mirror.

Then I have to "make - up" and deal with the "shake-up" when she finds the family cosmetic mirror gone again.

There was a great episode on Bay Watch from oh, maybee 1994 where a guys K code red convertible gets checked by the Aussie (ex Oz daytime soap Sons and Daughters) life gaurd with a gals hair mirror...under the car, check the flange and engine number pad..."sorry dude its not original".

Sounded harsh when it comes from an antipodean Islander...true story...thats all you need, and some light from a great flash light.
