Default Glass replacement for rear view

I have a rear view with map lights in my 84 convertible. I got it off an ebay seller a few years back. The slight delamination of the glass always bugged me but now that my interior is close to finished its a constant irritation.

Finding a used one in better condition isn't gonna happen but I was wondering if its possible to have the glass replaced. A quick spray with glossy black and new glass and its like new.

I found lots of online glass dealers selling replacement glass for the driver and passenger side views but not a one that has a ready cut replacement for the rear view. Has anybody ever done this? Maybe a local glazier could custom cut a piece of mirror for me?

I tried a bit ago to see if I could have the glass replaced not really thinking or knowing much about it. They could not (would not?) put in regular glass mirror in mine because they are a fancy, special "prismatic wedge".

I'm sure you can put regular mirror in there if you wanted to though! Just no dimmability with the lever at night.

The vert mirror is the stock mirror with the back side cut out and a cover added with lights. I have not looked at one in a while. Asc used one too. You can check the asc site as he sells parts too.

I tried to have this done for a 68 Mustang rear view mirror and ran into nothing but problems. Maybe something is different on the newer cars' rear view mirrors.

The 79 earlier ones are closer to 10" iirc.

Is the measurement taken end to end of the whole frame or the edges of the glass just inside the plastic rim?

From the web site,,,,,"This kit only works for convertible rear view mirrors that measure 9 1/2", it will NOT work for the mirror that measures 9 5/8"

Sounds like it's edge to edge of the frame.

Found this older thread with some info..... http://vb.foureyedpride.com/showthre...rror(interior)
