Default Leather wrapping a 86lx steering wheel ?

Anyway to leather wrap a thin 86 Lx wheel to give it a more beefier feel like a GT ? Ideally without removing

The beefier feeling of the SVO wheel compared to the LX wheel is due to foam padding that is added before the steering wheel is wrapped with leather.

If you remove the leather cover from an SVO wheel you will see that it is essentially the same wheel size and shape. You can wrap the steering wheel in place on the car, although some of it can be a bit more difficult working around the switches, and instrument cluster. Removing the wheel is nothing more than a single bolt and a steering wheel puller that can be rented from most local auto part stores or at least the Big Name ones.

You can purchase a quality steering wheel wrap here: http://www.redlinegoods.com/Mustang8793shiftboot.php Unfortunately they have the LX/SVO?GT smiley face steering wheel listed as an 87-93 wheel.

You can also purchase an E brake and shifter cover for the 79-86 consoles here: http://www.redlinegoods.com/Mustang7986shiftboot.php

    Best of Luck!

There is a guy in Dallas that restores leather wrapped steering wheels. He was posted on svocop and referred by the ex-svo guy.

If it's the guy I am thinking of, he does very nice work. Unfortunately the cost is @ $300-$400 IIRC which for many of us is out of our budget.

Try as mclaren.com. He sells them for $350. Not sure if it's new or refurbished. No core charge listed.
