Well the boss has a smile of her face so you must be doing things in the correct priority I did my garden yesterday and spring cleanup last weekend so I have a day to the car today

Can you comment on the stripping product you are using? I looks to be working well. I have not used any myself before and I am curious on the procedure and results.

Thanks Trey. I’ve owned 5 pace cars and none had the kidney opening. Everything I’ve measured indicates it will fit. After removing the white I see what appears to be pewter so it seems that it might be the real deal.

After cleaning the underside of the hood, it appears as the picture here is pewter. Some of the other areas looked grey or pewter and this is the best indication it’s pewter.

    Great work on the hood.

Here is the difference between 79 and 82+ hood:

I am using pro form aircraft paint stripper.

It works well with th exception of factory paint and rocker guard.

Thanks for the information about the hood differences. It makes sense that the 79-81 hoods were the same. I find it interesting that some may have th kidney bean opening. I never had one with an opening before.

The hood came out pretty good. Very little previous damage. As for the fender, that’s a different story.

I’m sure you’ll make quick work of that fender.

I told my wife and wanted to strip today. She didn’t see the same humour I did. I epoxy primed the hood and decided to use the new jobber fender. Name: 841E0D94-B18B-4715-88BA-FE5BD0575723.jpg

Cool stuff. I filled out one of those registration sheets back in the 90's and mailed it.....

Installed the hood and passenger fender on. The hood took some effort and work to fit reasonably well. After a few hours, I think it will work.

Well if you consider the only original panel left is the cowl, you might be right.

Nice article. And what a cool local newspaper with such a focus on motor sports. Haven’t seen anything like that around me.

Hello all, I spent the day working on my hatch for the pace car. It doesn’t seem to be too bad for an original hatch.

To strip the areas that had rust, I tried a blaster that attaches to a high pressure washer. It seems to work well in small areas.
