Another fine day in the garage. I purchased new sound deadender from noico. It seems to apply reasonably well as long as the garage is warm.

I got to see this car in person a week ago. The pics do not do this car justice.

This weekend I installed the headliner. It’s a PITA if you are working alone. I now want to get speakers for the rear hatch. Just a few questions, there were 6 x 9 speakers in place and I don’t know if the holes were cut out. The original grills are missing. Can someone please tell me what the opening dimensions are and if this looks original? The opening size is 6 x 8”. Also, do the 6 x 8 and 5 x 7 speakers fit as shown on the crutchfield site?

That appears to be OEM to me. Keep in mind the OEM 6x8 speaker bolts to the speaker grill itself and then the grill attaches to the quarter panel with 4 J nuts and screws. Here are a couple of pictures if you don't have the speaker grilles.

Any aftermarket 6x8 speaker should fit the OEM grilles. I believe LMR and others now offer reproduction grilles so if you don't have any that may be a source. Hope that helps!

The new speakers and grills fit well in the pace car. The Rockford fosgate 6 x 8 speakers fit in well, keep in mind when you purchase them from cruchfield you don’t get speaker covers. The speaker grills didn’t come with nuts so if they are missing, plan on getting a set before installing them.

I had a few hours to work on the car today. I added sound deadening on the floorboards.

I also added the tunnel hump kit on the car. While the car didn’t have one originally, the transmission was extremely close to the console and didn’t fit quite right. Now that I installed it, there seems to be plenty of room for the console to fit. The only question I have is whether the seal is in the right place or should be higher.

I installed new were sway bar mounts. I wonder if they’re a little bit too low. Has anyone installed these sway bar mounts with a maximum motorsport front suspension?

Today I replaced the thermostat gasket and painted he lower windshield trim. I tried to warm up the car today but it’s too cold to get the engine very warm. I also found a set of SVO panels available as repops online. I posted the question in the body shop section.

For, those of you who have been waiting in suspense for an update about my seats, I will paste his latest email to me. I was hoping for better news but expected this outcome. After I met with him Thursday, he will replace the vinyl on the front seats.

    Good day Patrick,
In regards to the seat cover package from TMI Products, I am sending you a list of issues as to why some seat covers aren't fitting properly.

Firstly I will say that the back bench seat covers fit will and went together without issue. As for the front bucket seats, there are some minor and major issues.

Starting with the seat bases, due to the use of 1/2" sew foam on the bolsters, this made the fit exceedingly tight which lead to the clips holding the upholstery down, to pull out and not engage properly. This issue was rectified, however the covers remain too tight. I cannot guarantee there will be no issues in the future with this. Also due to the tightness, the piped seam along the front edge has warped, this may or may not relax and straighten out. No further issue was observed with the bases.

The front bucket seat backrests is where our major issue is. First and foremost, the 1/2" sewfoam and 1/4" sewfoam on the inside of the upholstery hase caused a very large fitting issue with this foam making the interal fit too tight. With this extreme tightness, it has made it impossible to get the covers to properly fit over the bolsters. The foam on the bolsters has compressed to far and split from this high tension. This foam was repaired and bound together with high strength adhesive and Nomex fabric to assure they will not split again. The original upholstery does not have any sew foam attached.
Back panel of the backrest coupled with the front panel, both are not long enough to allow the bottom edge to engage fully. With the excessive tightness, they pull open, that is if you are able to get them to engage.
Side panels is where the biggest overall issues are. When compared to original upholstery, these panels are not shaped correctly. They are too narrow which has cause the piped seam to be in the wrong spot. Combine with the extra thick sewfoam, the piped seam is far too bulky, and because of the seam being improperly placed, it is causing the seat hinge brackets to bind and not function.
This seam also runs directly behind the release mechanism causing it to bind also and not function. There is no way to move this seam as it is about 1 1/2" away from where it should be. This seam should run along the front edge of the bolster, the new upholstery piped seam runs along the side and over bolt holes.
The only fix at this point is to remake the side panels to the correct shape and size using the original upholstery as a template.
So to sum up, improperly shaped side panels, extra thick sewfoam, front and back panels not long enough have caused multiple fitting issues that cannot be rectified without partially remaking these covers.
I will also send pictures of the issues to give you a visual of these problems.

Great Build from a fellow Albertan! Did you ever weld the holes closed where the body side molding goes behind the door and the molding in front of the rear bumper cover on the rear 1/4's?

I didn’t close all of the holes. If you weld, you can warp the panels, if you glue it, there is a good chance you will end up with a mark where the glue and metal meet.

My upholstery is finally installed on the recaro seats. To keep the story short, he replaced all of the vinyl on the top of the seats. He only charged me $400 Canadian pesos for material and labour. TMI said they wouldn’t cover anything. I purchase most of my supplies from Western Motorsports in Calgary. They purchased the seat covers from LMR. The good news is that LMR will cover some of the costs and Western Motorsports will cover the rest. While I’m disappointed with TMI, it’s good to see these companies work with us when these types of things occur.

I re did my capri seats with TMI kits, and Im really pissed at the material that the 2 long thick rods go into are so thin. I slowly inserted the rods (that I cleaned) and they ripped all the way. then I sprayed some lub on the rods on the other seat and they made it half way before ripping.
