A little more progress this week. I Installed the driveshaft, filled the engine and transmission with oil and added fuel to the tank. There are no leaks so far and just hoping none appear this week. The fuel pump even works. Now I’m waiting again for a special order bolt for the March pulley kit. I’m expecting more problems in the weeks to come with this kit.

I had to order a 6 1/2” bolt for the alternator. (It came with a 6”)
I ordered a spacer for the balancer.
The bracket rubs against the pulley and it seems too far back for fit up.

I hope the parts arrive this week.

I started the car finally. I couldn’t leave it run long without a rad. https://photos.app.goo.gl/MR5SmvqSkxaR4Ex19

I hit a snag yesterday. The car started to run poorly and I was having difficulty in determining what the problem was. I managed to get it to run long enough to find the engine lost most of its vacuum. It was running at 11” hg vacuum originally and now is about 2”. I noticed some soot on the throttle body and found this:

I’ve never seen one crack before. I don’t know if it’s the cause of my vacuum leak or not.

It defeats the purpose of buying a complete crate engine though.

Good news, it is just a factory casting and all is well. I reset the tune to factory and it seems to run ok. Now to start tuning again.

I’ve started preparing the car for paint. I hope to have it painted before Christmas.

The car is almost ready for paint, I’m just waiting for the shop to have time to do the work. In the meantime I worked on a few odds and ends.

The factory dash panel was cracked in multiple places. I used Lord Fusor panel adhesive that is supposed to work together.

I am still waiting to get the car painted. I decided to prep the dash. I purchased one from a 1985 mustang which was grey.

Has anyone purchased the TMI upholstery kit for Recaro seats? I purchased the upholstery and foam for the pace car and my upholstery shop said it’s too small. In other words, fat guy in a little coat.

I have not purchased the kit myself, but several others have and I haven't seen any comments to that effect.

I do know that TMI states their upholstery kit doesn't fit the OEM foam as it designed for their foam that is a little bit larger/thicker/fuller however you want to say it than the OEM stuff, especially most worn foam.

I do know that the upholstery is a tight fit and most have to use the trash bag/plastic bag fit to get the covers over the foam.

Hi Trey, I had tried installing the kit myself and used the plastic bag trick. I couldn’t get it to work and took it to an upholstery shop that has done many interiors for a few restoration shops near here. They said it’s just too small and said the covers have foam in them as well, making a bad situation worse.

Hmm interesting. I have not seen anyone else post about having issues. I would contact TMI directly or the vendor you purchased the kit from and get them to swap it out for you. Good Luck! The new paint looks nice!

We called the supplier and tmi. They think us Canadians are reading in metric I guess. I have to pick them up and see what to do next.

Car looks awesome man. I am happy to see you went with a Fitech EFI system. I converted my wife's 1983 Capri to a Fitech efi system. Loved it so much. I went to a Mustang Foxbody car show in Red deer a couple years ago and put the car on the rollers. The stock 1993 5.0L with a Fitech and headers went 211hp and 289 ft lbs of torque at the rear wheels. The torque came on at 2198 RPM and stayed flat till 5400 RPM. The tuner at the shop was amazed at the numbers it pulled for a stock engine.
I hope to see this car at car shows in 2020. Where in Alberta are you?

I thanks, I haven’t tuned the system yet, I’ve had a few issues with it and I hope it works good after it gets some running time. I live on the border, Lloydminster.

An update on the TMI seats. The upholstery company said the following:

The seat covers were fabricated smaller than the original set.
The seat covers don’t follow the same pattern on the top as the original set.
The new seat covers have foam backing on them, making the fit even worse. The original covers do not have foam backing on them.
The old seat covers fit on the seats with the new seat foam. (that is the only good news I can find)

    Cougman67,
I bought a pace car recently and after going g back thru your build I have questions about the sunroof.
Do you remember which holes in the roof structure the hoses went into? And did you use any kind of 90 degree fitting to replicate the original drain tubes?

Good question. I used the newer fittings and ran a hose to the original locations (or where I believe it was). The drain lines have a bit of a low spot on the front. I get the headliner in next week and will see how well it fits.
