Today the weather is reasonable. I decided last night to epoxy prime the roof, quarters and rockers before completing the body work. The quarters don’t look too bad all things considered. I am trying to use PPG for most of my body shop material.

That's a lot of work already complete and looks factory fresh. At this rate you'll be done by spring....

I have a question for everyone. The roof originally had foam between the braces and top panel. Without the foam, the panel moves like a tin can. The my auto part supplier has a special foam for it but the product is expensive and I’d only use a little bit. They suggested using low expansion foam and wondered if it had been tried by anyone on this forum.

If you try the low expansion foam I would be concerned about expanding unevenly and creating bumps in your roof.

I was thinking the same thing. I was also concerned with the foam getting loose and making noise over time.

Define costly in the long term of the project. You have spent this amount of time and labor already that if it were me I'd buy the proper foam. Maybe shop around to see if there is a cheaper product out there that does the same thing. Just remember. You get what you pay for in quality. Just my .02

I agree, after spending nearly $200 on a quart of epoxy primer, what’s another $100 for the foam.

As much as I like to save money when possible, I would definitely recommend going with an automotive grade foam product. It is surprising how hot the metal roof gets and that often is much higher than home/residential grade products are rated for. That unfortunately causes them to fail often and then the repair costs are much higher than buying the good stuff initially.

There are several options and I am not sure what is more prevalent in your area. I assume you already have a 2 part caulking gun for urethane adhesives, etc. such as 3m, Duramix, Oatey, Lord Fusor. I have been using Lord Fusor for most of my projects lately and have been very happy with the quality and price point compared to 3M and others. If you have to purchase the gun too things can get expensive at first, but once you have the gun, then all the other cartridges are much more reasonable.

I have been buying my Lord Fusor products from here: https://www.autobodytoolmart.com/sea...rds=Lord+Fusor since none of my local auto body supply stores carry the brand. The first listing is for the flexible foam (fast) at @$44 If you need the applicator gun too https://www.autobodytoolmart.com/lor...1-p-15952.aspx This is the one I am using, so if you can purchase thru these guys and the whole US to Canada thing doesn't add too much cost you could have the gun and foam for about the price you stated for the foam alone. I believe you will find there are several other cartridges that can be very helpful for all the body work and paint work you have upcoming. Hope that helps. Best of Luck!

I’ve been using lord fusor as well. It’s a pretty good brand and get it locally. The only issues I’ve had is working with the weld able panel bond, it seems to burn more than I’d like.

I’ll order the proper product and update how well it works.

I haven't tried the weldable panel bond as of yet, so good to know. I might need some once I get going on my 82 RS and all the rust repair on that poor thing. Good Luck!

The weather is agreeable tonight and I decided to use the foam on the roof. I purchased lord fusor 121. You have to be very careful with it. The working time is very short and it expands slower than expected. As you can see in the pictures it expanded and flowed out everywhere. The good news is it trims easily. The foam stays nice and flexible and is made for hoods and roofs. If I had to do it again I would put very little on and do possibly two coats.

Even though Barrett-Jackson is on, I took some time to work on the car. Hello the roof had no rest they were but if you didn’t send it. In five hours today i managed to repair half of the roof.
My dent puller, don’t get a cheap one.

I installed windshield clip brackets today. I hadn’t used the dent puller tool for this before. It was relatively easy except the machine was a little too wide too install the clips nicely.

Good progress. I have a HF stud puller and it works pretty good as long as the metal is nice a clean.

I haven’t worked on it the last few weeks until today. Working on the quarters and even though there wasn’t much damage, there was a high spot at the lowest rear corner where the sail panel ends.

I found a few rust free doors from British Columbia this week. It’s very difficult to find rust free doors that are pre 87. They are in amazing condition except for the damage in the shipping. I now have an extra two pair of doors along with the original set. I think I can make them fit my pace car. To celebrate I epoxy primed the car to allow me time to fix these doors and make them fit.
The damage to the door. Not bad considering it travelled two provinces.

I have returned from our vacation in Mexico. Now I get to work on the car again. For interest sake, I took a few pictures of the old roof panel.
The reason I replaced the roof.

The doors from British Columbia were rust free and likely a 1984 model. After stripping the outside panel.
