Today I cleaned the car, adjusted the sunroof and installed new lug nuts.

My children convinced me to install the louvers that I installed on the car back in the day. I’m glad they did.

    Louvers are a nice touch.

Are you going to install the graphics on the hood and around the tail lights?

Those cobra wheels really have aged well. I've never seen them on a pace car but they look great!

I haven’t decided on the remaining striped. I am sure that I won’t add the mustang decal on the hood, I know it’s a mustang already.

Yesterday I reorganized in the garage. I won’t bore you with the details, what I will show you is the difference between my original pace car fabric and the new fabric. The guys at TMI obviously can’t follow a line. It’s easy to see why they wouldn’t fit, between the size differences and the backing, it wasn’t going to fit.

The new material is on top.

You can see the backing on the new material.

I purchased a sending unit specific to the early Mustangs.

After a week in the shop getting the exhaust and inspection done, I am now legally allowed to drive it on the road.

It needs some tuning but overall it’s not terrible.

Patrick, the car looks great and glad you got it legally on the road now! Just need all the gravel to get picked up and salt to get rained away now to really get out there!

I think the louvers were a good choice. They look like the stick on ones. I have a set of those on my 82 GT and think they complete the look of the car! Mind you, I do also like the early Cobras without the rear spoiler and louvers also. Without the louvers, a lot of sun gets into the hatch area and can fade fabric and chalk plastics up.

What else is left to do on the car? For originality reasons, I'd be torn about the rest of the decals not being on myself.

You are going to need another project to do. There is only so much driving you can do to occupy your time and rainy days do happen!

Nice to finally have it on the road and legal. Too bad there will not be any opprotunities to show it off to crowds this year.

It’s great to have it on the road. Now I have to work out some bugs.

    1. It’s running hot, especially when idling. I replaced the fan with the original one. I hope that helps.
    2. The fuel pump is noisy, really noisy. It’s not consistent, it’s usually quiet when it starts and gets louder when the car runs for a while. It’s my FiTech unit with an in-line pump. I considered using an intank setup but the early tanks are smaller.

I’m looking for an alternate fuel pump this week just in case.

That's very cool. Now get her to do a face mask for you wear when driving the car.

This weekend was another one in which I was trying to do some more finishing touches on the car. The fuel pump was whining when it warmed up and was driving me crazy. I cleaned the suction filter and noticed a significant amount of steel fines in the filter. When I drilled out the hole in the tank I tried to keep the fines out of the tank, I blew it out and vacuumed it to ensure there were no fines left. I was surprised at how much was in the screen. I cleaned it out and now the pump runs nice and quiet.

I’ve been working on the belt squeal and it’s getting better.

Now on to the fine tuning of the EFI.

Unfortunately I am still waiting for my stereo. They quit answering my emails over the last month and I called them on Thursday. They promised to call me back the same day. I asked if I was unreasonable in requesting an answer that was acceptable to both of us. Realize it been since February since I ordered the stereo. Instead of calling menacing, i received an email. See below.

Your part from RMA-4230 is being shipped to the supplier for warranty inspection and evaluation. Please allow up to 30 days for the inspection to be completed at which time you will receive an email with the results of the inspection.

    Additional RMA Information:
Hello Patrick, I was advised it will be another 30 days, I know this is inconvenient and I wish there was something I could do to quicken the process , however it is out of our hands with this pandemic going on. Please reach out to me with any questions I will ensure you get a reply. Thanks and stay safe Sarah

Thank you for your business and we look forward to serving you in the future!

Hello everyone. It looks like I am able to install a 1985 mustang air cleaner assembly on my pace car. My aluminum cover is not in great condition and I am looking for one. Does anyone know where they are available?

I wasn’t prepared to spend that much on an air cleaner assembly so I worked on mine.

I was looking for a noise inside the car today. It seems to resonate at 40 to 45 mph. While I didn’t find the source, I did take a few pictures of the car.
